We took delivery of Marvin (2dr, Badlands, Squatch) a couple of weeks ago, we've been hitting the trail regularly. We used to have a Jeep TJ and I was always impressed how easy they were to work on, I called it a "Leggo Car". So far everything I've tackled on Marvin has been super easy, and the platform lends itself to customization as Ford promised.
The Story...The good, we have a UTV we tow on a small trailer, so I put on a Rough Country Class III hitch. The factory rear bumper is light enough to remove and install with one person. The Hitch kit was inexpensive, and the directions were clear and installing it only took a few hand tools.
The Lesson...The bad. I also was installing a flat 4 lighting kit. I found one online from a large trailer supplier for about $111.00, and then I found what I thought was the exact same unit for $85.00 on Amazon. Hey I saved $26.00 and they shipped it prime, so I got it in like three days. I installed the light kit and it didn't work! Upon further investigation, I discovered that there is a wiring difference between Broncos with LEDs tailights (mine), and units with Halogen lights. So I went through all the trouble to wire the wrong kit. Of course, I can't return incorrect part since I installed it, so I'm now out $85.00 and have to order the unit that was more expensive (and coincidentally, the website from the large online trailer supplier clearly says "for units with LEDs" vs. "for units without LEDs". I blame no one but myself. Attention to detail... Hope this saves someone from my mistake.
Next project is I'm installing a Rough Country winch mount, winch and lights, wish me luck.
Roll It, Rock It, make it DIRTY!
