The Real Reason Why Ford Doesn't Sell A Bronco Pickup Today

"When Ford announced the Bronco, Jeep was kind of playing a game of its own with the Wrangler. There was no other vehicle on the market that could compete in terms of off-road abilities and open-top feel. This was until Ford came up with the Bronco which managed to get close to the Jeep's abilities. Its lack of a solid front axle puts it a bit behind, but it is safe to say that the Bronco is the second most capable 4x4 on the market today.

With the above in mind, it would only make sense to produce a Ford Bronco pickup."

Top Speed believes a Gladiator rival would sell well, especially if produced with a stubbier wheelbase vs. what Jeep puts out, but it won't happen unless Ford cancels the Ranger.

We've talked about a Bronco pickup before, but what do you think about it competing with the Ranger? Would you take a Bronco pickup over one? Personally, I wouldn't. I think the Bronco is fine for its purpose as is, and if I wanted a truck, I would go larger than a Ranger.

it would be interesting to see how it would look, but I wouldn't get one. As long as they don't make it as butt ugly as the gladiator I will be happy. I am not even joking, every time I see a gladiator I have an instant stink face. I can't even control it anymore. I don't see it competing with the ranger though. It would just be a wannabe truck competing with an actual truck.

If Ford was just worried about North America... I think you could make the argument to develop a Bronco pickup for the US/Canadian markets.

But given that the Ford Ranger is Ford's #1 selling pickup outside of North America... it's hard to make the business case. Doesn't make sense to discontinue the Ranger given it is one of their best-selling products overseas. And when you consider the fact that the Ranger will still sell a decent amount here in the land of pickups... it just doesn't make sense for a Bronco pickup considering the engineering work was already done on the Ranger for the overseas markets.

Makes WAY more sense to build a more off-road version of the Ranger (like the Ranger Raptor) than it is to make a Bronco pickup.

BUT A BRONCO PICKUP WOULD BE COOL!!

Ford could make a Ranger oversees and a Bronco pickup state side. It would save on parts development with the overlap also. It's not at all unprecedented for @Ford Motor Company to do such things. They have often produced vehicles for one market that was discontinued elsewhere or even completely different versions for different continents. Heck if we got the Escorts that were offered in other countries they still might exist and moreover @Ford Motor Company would have maintained a fanbase with younger generations that instead jumped on all the imports that actually focused on what consumers wanted.

I see no reason to make a “Bronco pickup”…but it would be pretty simple to weld up the back doors and put a “half cab” on the ugly 4 dr to pretty it up…(lipstick on a pig)…a convertible ranger would make more sense to me…

Having a Hummer H3T, which is currently on a path of obsolescence (parts availability), I wanted to buy the then 2020 rumored Bronco Pickup. I'd buy Bronco Pickup in a heartbeat. I bought my Bronco to head off a prospective fatal event for the Hummer and was hoping to just replace the H3T.

Ford could lose the Ranger (again) for the North American market IMO and replace the 4x4 models with the Bronco Pickup. At worst keep a fleet service Ranger 2x2 for the local pest control and beverage markets; but WHY then did Ford introduce the Maverick in the first place?

BTW, I was an original owner of the Ranger 1st Gen STX (1987), which was a real factory 4x4 midsized pickup, with a special off road suspension/lift and tires. STX is now just a stupid graphics package.

Ford should build the Bronco Pickup and bag the 4x4 Rangers. Use the 4-door Bronco body and just add inside bed walls and floor. Keep roll bar.

Yes, they could, but pretty rare of them to do that. The only vehicle they do that today with is the Ford Everest. The Bronco is effectively the American version of the Ford Everest.

The vast majority of the other products Ford sells overseas used to be sold in North America, but Ford discontinued it here due to poor sales and/or to bring in new products with better profit margins. The Ford Focus, for example... that was a relatively popular compact car that is still sold overseas (for now, anyway), but Ford replaced it with the Ranger and Bronco here in the American market, which have MUCH better profit margins.

I don't think it will happen, but if it did this is what would interest me:

Short Wheelbase- 100.4
Removable Cap -like IH Scout pickup
Camper Ready- preferably partner with a vendor and sell units with camper pre installed....

In Pickup form the Ranger has some cache And a following, hence it's glorious return. I feel like a Pickup Bronco would just create another division amongst owners in the what's best/real Bronco : 2 door vs 4 door vs sport vs Pickup vs flying car vs amphibious car vs trolley, where does the madness end? At a certain point you water everything down. It's getting to be ridiculous. The mach E would have been a good vehicle (for an EV) but they ruined it by branding it a Mustang which it absolutely will NEVER be unless you're a sociopath. @Ford Motor Company needs to stop muddling the waters by putting the successful names on everything. Use some creativity and create NEW brands that are successes in their own right rather then simultaneously alienating owners and dragging down the brands we know and love. Currently having a Bronco truck and Bronco suv is good. Now if the Bronco were to be based off the F150 and have a bigger motor (V8 and and bigger twin tubos on a V6 ?) with the right looks I might change my thinking.

To say the Bronco replaced the Focus misses the mark by a wide margin. Ford stopped making cars (except the Mustang) because they can't compete cost wise. They have also tried to kill off the Mustang by using it on the Mach E. It's not rare at all just less common nowadays. The past tells the future. Ford is as creative as Hollywood and just keeps drumming up old creations made anew then eventually making "heritage" versions. T-Bird, Shelbys,Ford GT,Taurus,Bronco,Ranger,Maverick ect. Soon we will see an EV called the Cold Fusion.

I don't mean Bronco is targeted at the same market segment as the Focus was. That obviously isn't true.

By "replaced" I mean Ford is producing the Bronco and Ranger in the same physical assembly plant the Focus was produced at prior it being discontinued. They replaced the Focus with vehicles that have higher profit margins, thus generating more profit from the same assembly plant.

Same thing happened to the Fusion and Fiesta. It was replaced by the Maverick and Bronco Sport down in Mexico.

In that vacuum you are correct. And yes they went away and these reappeared so in a sense you are correct that they replaced them. I think @Ford Motor Company really misstepped doing away with the Fusion though. They're everywhere, they're reliable and they look dang good for a 4 door family car. I bleed blue oval but my wife's Fusion is literally the first Ford I ever got in to test drive and thought wow this car has nice materials and a quality look inside.

The G6 Ranger makes no sense to me. Ford dropped the 2-door cab and 6ft. bed configuration, which kills the utility of it for being a true Pickup. Ford created the Maverick, which is essentially the same vehicle as the G6 Ranger in most trims. The Maverick is $10K cheaper because it platform shares with the Escape and is built in Mexico.

Hummm... does Ford really need another full-size Pickup truck that looks like a Bronco (if Gen 7 Bronco moves to the F150 chassis)? Kind of the same argument for model diversity on the Ranger chassis.

I think the Ranger should go away and be replaced with the Maverick, and the mid-size Pickup be built on the Bronco architecture using the 4-door wheelbase chassis. Do a 2-door long bed and a 4-door short bed. Both with removable tops. Keep the manual transmission of course!

Yeah I don't understand both the Maverick and Ranger co-existing either. If they really want all the old names they could make one a trim or the Maverick could be a regional edition in somewhere like Texas similar to the old Cali special

I understand Ford's use of the Mustang Mach E, which was to generate legitimacy of their first dedicated EV platform. But thinking about it Maverick might have served well too. Definitely not "Pinto" 😂
