The YouTube channel, Engineering Explained is an excellent resource for learning the technical aspects of drivetrains, etc. In this particular video he looks at the Bronco’s crawler gear, specifically with the Badlands trim.

This gives a solid explanation (based on information from the preliminary specs sheet) why the crawl ratios are...

Automatic without Advanced 4x4: 57.19
Automatic with Advanced 4x4: 67.8:1
Manual without Advanced 4x4: 79.92:1
Manual with Advanced 4x4 94.75:1

I realize he goes into details about how it's impossible to make use of this much torque, but more is always better. I've said it before and I'll say it again... (Manual) Badlands > Sasquatch

I’m too lazy to watch. Has anyone heard if the crawler gear is syncro’ed or not? I know there’s a gate on it but it looks like a knob on the shifter.

I've crawled for years with a manual and am sooooooo looking forward to an automatic lol.

It wasn't mentioned but it would be a huge faux pas for Ford to not have it synchronized. It's hard enough for the younger generation to master a manual transmission - can you imagine getting them to learn double clutching too? LOL

It would be fun to run the term past them just to watch their head explode. With a ratio that low, synchro'ed or not, double clutch or not, it will be hard to get it in if you are rolling more than 1-2 mph. Probably best not to try to downshift into it, but stop and put it gear.If you need to go that slow you should stop, get out and survey the path you plan to take anyway.

I think I’ve seen the achievable speed with the crawler gear is 1-6 mph. I couldn’t imagine down shifting into that! I would imagine you would get to the trail in normal gearing, and then engage the crawler only where you need it.

If it’s like any of the other modern crawler/granny gears it should be able to to downshift from second to first/crawler gear. Pretty

I look at it more like, first gear is first gear. Crawler is crawler and they aren't at all the same thing, meaning you wouldn't downshift from second to first to crawler. Crawler would only be used when you wanted to crawl, up or down something significant or significantly steep. I look at "C" as a standalone gear, used in a very limited way and not used during normal driving at all. The utility of the crawler gear is high, but in very limited instances.

Would y'all be interested in more information on Crawler Gear? We might be able to get more information about how it's engaged, RPM recommendations for when to engage, and how to reset if it doesn't engage. Just seeing if people would enjoy hearing about it.

Yes, please. I would be happy to take one for a test drive as well! Maybe from Michigan to New Hampshire and back?

No, it's not really important. It's just a crawler gear.

I don't know if more information on the crawler gear is necessary, but it might help to have some more specific topics under the "New Bronco" section? Something like... powertrain or drivetrain. Not all that necessary, but could help de-clutter the "General Discussion"

David, please do. Synchro is still a question and even if C is not used much (which I think is correct) having it synchronized will save grinding gears by people who don't stop before engaging C. But I can see wheeling and going into C "on the fly". With synchro you'll have a choice and won't have to always stop or double clutch to get into C.

I agree and always enjoy a good tech write up. I would rather read about the crawler gear vs debating how many cup holders the Bronc needs...LOL. Also, any info on how the ManSquatch durability testing went? I would assume the results were OK if revised to late availability.

I'm in the group who wants to know more about the crawl gear and the way it is managed from a drivers seat. So yes please share.

With all the videos that came out recently with ride alongs. Why haven't we seen much on the crawler gear and using it? I'd like to see it in motion and really not much has been shown on that front.

It's not very exciting. It's a pretty specific, limited use, piece that very few people are opting for and very few people will actually use/need. I think it's the cat's meow, but that's just me.
