Talk to me about trail arms

Looking at the Camburg Kinetic rear trailing arms, and have a few questions about trail arms in general-

1. Would replacing the trail arms alone increase rear droop with the stock Sasquatch suspension, or would this need to be accompanied by new rear shocks with more travel?

2. How much stress is on them when the vehicle is sitting at rest? Can they be easily changed without putting the rear end on a lift / blocks, or do you need to hold the suspension up when working with them?

3. The service manual suggests throwing out all of the bolts when replacing the trail arms. What’s the reasoning here?

Unless they are longer, you will gain no more droop. And you will only get more droop with struts that allow for it.

You do need to lift the car up to remove and replace the arms.

I don't see any reason to replace bolts. Maybe use some locktite.

It's because they supply stronger bolts, and unless you drop the gas tank you have to cut one of the stock bolts. I don't know why you would need Grade 9, but I guess it's one better than Grade 8.

Actually, you could turn those bolts up to Grade 11. It gives it that little something extra, one more better.

The Camburg arms definitely allow for more travel. What I’m not sure of is whether the stock bilsteins have any more travel in them. Are the stock arms constrained by the shocks or are the shocks constrained by the arms. Or both.

While driving on the trail periodically switch spots with your passenger so your (trail) arms get evenly tanned/burned.

It's almost always the shocks. An easy way to find out is to lift the vehicle, on a lift or the rear with a jack. Then remove the rear shocks and lift the rear.

You'll see what binds and the limits of the suspension components. It will show you how much range you have without the shocks. Again, the limiting factor is almost always the shocks.
