Of course a line under than much tension is not just going to fall the ground when it breaks, synthetic or not.. They did not have any weight in the damper and that also would have made a difference if they did. A synthetic line is still going to be 100x safer than a steel line if a failure occurs..
Also, you will notice that the line ended up UNDER the Jeeps at both ends. I guarantee you that a steel cable if it broke like that would probably have busted the windshield or at least slammed into the grill/radator, and could have gone to the side (see triangle of death) on at least one of those Jeeps. Back in the old days, we used to put the hood up on the Jeep, just to keep it from coming through the windshield.
The Synthetic line, as he says in the video, just follows the tension straight back and it stayed low right back toward the winch/bumper.
Also, while getting hit by a synthetic winch line will HURT, you have a pretty good chance of surviving. A steel cable ... well, your odds aren't nearly as good of walking away as with synthetic.
So I agree 100%, Synthetic is much safer than steel. But putting some weight in that bag and getting it to fit a bit tighter still can't hurt. In the end, safety first, stay out of the way when you are winching.
