Swapped Bronco for a Ranger

Well, the luster had worn off my 2021 4dr BB Bronco, and I made the painful decision to part with her in favor of a 2022 Ranger. The 4dr, non-Sasquatch BB had never completely appealed to me from a cosmetic standpoint, the soft top popped, flapped and fluttered in the Wyoming wind, and the heavy, cumbersome 4dr labored when paired with the 2.3L.
So, this past Saturday I swapped her and my 2021 Rapid Red Ranger for a Velocity Blue Rocky Ridge built Ranger. I’m loving the new Ranger with the 6” suspension lift, custom black leather seats, and other improvements.
However, parting is such sweet sorrow……..especially since I kept my Race Red 2dr Wildtrak :) Yeah, I know that was misleading and a bit unfair. The 4dr was always planned as a gap vehicle until the arrival of my WT, and it was a tough decision to part with her. I grew to love the easy maintenance of the Cactus Gray paint, which always looked clean, and the easy flip of a latch access to the wind and sun of the soft top. But, a new chapter begins……..

Back in summer 2020 I had fully intended on buying a Ranger and was actively looking for one when they announced the Bronco. Obviously ended up ordering a Bronco and putting the Ranger plans on hold.

Thanks to all of the delays with the Bronco, I could now feasibly buy both a Ranger and a Bronco. I was back and forth on it for awhile, but honestly I’m not super impressed with the current generation Ranger, so I passed on the idea. BUT, next generation Ranger is due out in 2023, so I’ll revisit the idea next year. (Although if I’m being honest… the Maverick could do everything I needed the Ranger to do and get substantially better fuel economy in the process, so probably should be smart and just buy one of those.)

Anyway, nice looking Ranger! I’m jealous. Admittedly a little too high of a lift for my personal tastes, but I love Rocky Ridge’s truck builds.

Guilty as charged. In spite of my petulance and incessant whining about the Bronco Rollout and the still bitter taste left from the Ice Mountain debacle, I’m a Ford guy. As much as Ford disregards Customer service, fairness, process, open communication, and truthfulness, the Race Red 2dr WT in my driveway is as close to driving perfection and visual appeal as any vehicle I have ever owned. It was worth much, much more than the MSRP price tag, and I don’t have a single complaint nor disappointment in regards to the vehicle itself.

Yeah, I think I prefer the Rocky Ridge Black Widow builds and it’s 5” lift vs. the K2 and RR 6” versions. The 33.5” KO2’s don’t quite fill the wheel well sufficiently IMO. But, everything else I love and beggars can’t be choosers in this vehicle climate. Perhaps I’ll swap the WT Goodyear 35’s with the Ranger BFG 33.5”s? It might improve the stance and look of both since I prefer the 2dr Bronco looks with the 33:”s, at least from the profile view.

I had a 2019 Ranger Lariat that had 36 payments remaining. I “traded” it in (paid off my balance and wrote me a check for $6K) and I signed a 36 month loan for my 2022 Bronco Sport Badlands. The Ranger held it’s value nicely (could be due to production issues) and it’s 2.3 really moved out. The only criticism I received was from F150, 250 and so on owners, kind of like the “but it’s not a real Bronco” I get from Bronco owners now. It didn’t bother me then, just as it doesn’t bother me now, just a heads up what you might expect.

I traded in a 2021 Ranger (along with the 2021 BB Bronco) on the 2022 Ranger and before that owned a 2004 Ranger that I bought new until I traded it in on the 21 Ranger last March.
I’m not aware of, and was not subjected to any Ranger shaming by F-150 owners, but wouldn’t really give a shit either way.
