We are looking to add a subwoofer to our 22 Outerbanks 4dr- the stereo place in town told me that they have installed a few stinger swing-gate subs in new broncos. Does anyone have any knowledge about these? It looks like it would be nice since we wouldn't lose and storage space, but don't know how they sound.

They sound okay, I haven't heard one in a Bronco before, but I have heard several in a Jeep. Not the best I've heard, but also... a good option for vehicles with swing gates.

The problem that often happens with Jeep installs is the speaker isn't isolated properly from the swing gate itself... and when you are listening to music with heavy-ish bass it rattles something else in/on the tailgate. Worth noting you do lose some storage space—whatever the width of the sub box is. But it's probably better than the alternative locations.

The only thing you have to do is make sure you aren't making boneheaded mistakes when loading your vehicle. My brother (who is somewhat of an auto sound guru) had a swing gate sub on his vehicle. He was carrying something heavy in the back of his SUV while off-roading, and the load he had in the back of his truck shifted backwards. Ended up smashing the sub up pretty good when he was traveling up a hill (although probably prevented him from smashing up the tailgate itself).

I appreciate the info- My 17 year old is the primary driver of the bronco, so I am sure it will be good enough for him. I did worry about him closing the door and hitting the speaker with something, fingers crossed he doesn't

I've purchased the Stinger tailgate sub and Phoenix gold amp to install in my 4Door Luxe, I'll be disconnecting the factory Sub altogether. I've already upgraded all the other speakers in the B&O system, so I'm looking forward to taking care of the bass next.
Reservation: 7/20/20 | MY '21 order: 2/1/21 | MY '22 order: 10/22/21 | Blend 8/5, built 8/8, 'built' status 8/27, in my driveway 10/12/22

Wow! I thought the B&O system was supposed to be far superior to the one I have in the mid package-

I'm also supposed to be a billionaire and retired by age 50. that didn't work as planned either. LOL... the stock B&O system is pretty lacking all around. I'm no audiophile - I'm actually deaf in one ear and partially in the other - but the sound quality of the B&O system is very disappointing for the price we paid for Lux. putting $500 worth of speakers in there made a HUGE difference. Can't wait to add the sub and amp.

It is far better than the mid system! Some folks may say different but for a factory radio it's loud enough for me. And I am not interested in everyone in the HOOD hearing my music.
