I'm currently working with a local shop here in Alabama to create a stirrup side step for Bronco's equipped with the factory rock rails. We've got a single working prototype that I'm testing at the moment. Keep in mind when you look at this that it is not in final form, this is more for fleshing out the concept and finding places to improve. With that said I welcome your comments and questions.

I don't have any that I want to share right at the moment. It's still a little rough.

Really cool work. Would love to help out with the design if you like/need. I’m a mechanical engineer. Could help with a finalized CAD design or with calculations etc. Really like the idea and have been looking for a similar option, especially if it were something readily/easily removable.

I like the concept and since you asked for feedback here ya go…

1- make it frame mountable not body mounted
2- make sure the step is no lower than the current rock rail (to maximize clearance)
3- don’t make the step any wider from the body than the Sasquatch fender flare
4- make just a simple tubular steel (powder coated) step - no need for a top plate which will allow crud to accumulate underneath

if you can pull off the items above, I am a buyer!

Thanks for the offer, we're doing this old school. Fab up, test fit, repeat!:D

Answers:
1 - Mounts to stock rock rail
2 - Check
3 - Check
4 - Considering that option. Treadplate shown is only for testing purposes, we plan a different treadplate to allow for mud and crud not to accumulate and to also provide traction.

Thanks - if it mounts to the existing rock rail then I assume you are also making it removable, right? (If not, I would highly recommend it!)

Correct, we're desiging it to be easily removed and relocated. I can do it in under 5 minutes with this prototype.

You mean like the one Archetype Racing already makes?

In that it is a stirrup style step that mounts to the rock rail; yes. But ours will not require any drilling and can easily be relocated or removed.

Hmmmmm - there were pics earlier. Perhaps they were removed to protect @J2D intellectual property or he has already been served a cease & desist…

How is the height? I like the way it mounts. I think the round pipe is a little soft for the angular shape of the rail. Maybe a radius square tube? Just my opinion.

On height, I assume your asking if the step looses you some ground clearance. In this case it does not, the step sits at the same height as the rockrail, the only thing lower is the bracket and it's not enough to affect anything.
This photo should help if it works.
