This question has probably already been discussed over the past year or two. I haven't found an exact answer anywhere as of today. I've put my July 2020 reservation on hold because of some unavailable options. I'm planning on pulling the trigger on a MY23 at the end of this month!

Question: What exactly is the difference between the two besides the size of the tires, fender flares, & clearance . If I include the black wheels with carbonized grey beauty ring $995. The Sasquatch package is still $3,095 more. Badlands already has the 4.7 ratio with locking diffs. There's no way to justify that price upcharge over the factory Badlands in my opinion. Does the SAS have a lift kit included as well? Are the shocks that much better? Anyone else already figure this out? Thanks, Zack

Yes the SAS has better shocks, clearance, and it has a lift. That's the facts. Let me tell you the talk. If you like that Badlands the way it is and won't be driving it hard off-road don't get the SAS. If you like the way the SAS looks better, get the SAS. If your a hard core off reader, get the SAS. I'm only getting the wildtrak Hoss 3.0 because I like the way it looks.

I ordered badlands with 33’s b/c I wanted manual gearbox in 2021 (couldn’t do SAS back then).

I believe, but honestly not 100% sure what changed in 2022 and beyond, that SAS gets you:

1. a bump stop that limits uptravel and provides room for the larger tires.
2. 17x8.5 +30 offset wheels
3. 315/70 R17 tires.
4. Maybe a rear sway bar?

I’ve been running the larger tires with 38mm hub centric spacers on mine with zero rubbing issues (moderate trails). Oh yeah, removed the crash bars too. Plan to do 1.25” perch collar level this winter!

Rear sway bar on 2 door Broncos are HOSS 3.0 only. 4 doors come with them standard though.

I have a 2022 non SAS Badlands and am completely happy. Do not plan on any hard core wheeling. Also I have an auto trans that is a 4.46 rear. I believe the manual comes with a 4.70. If I am incorrect someone please correct me. Good luck.

Beautiful!! That's exactly the color and combo of my original build. Really bummed they got rid of Rapid Red. Love the stripe! Did you get that stripe custom made or is someone selling kits like that?

I live over in east central Ohio. Probably won't be going hardcore on the trails. Might make a trip over to Badlands in Attica Indiana annually, "or more depending on the level of addiction ,lol". Just some moderate playing on the long weekends. I really like the look of the badlands with the K02 33's. Not a big fan of large flares. Going with the manual, high, and black painted carbonized grey wheels. I can always lift and go to 35's at a later time, "maybe when the K02's wear out". Thanks for the information. Counting down the minutes until order bank opens up for MY23. Shadow Black hardtop and soft top combo here I come baby!! Ready for the hot summer days and freezing cold winters here in Ohio!

The Badlands trim doesn’t need the Sasquatch. In fact, none of the trim levels need the Squatch. Badlands, especially. I recently did the Off Roadeo. My experience was that understanding the vehicle’s limitations, and strengths, your own skill limitations, and properly reading the terrain will get you through all but the most extreme conditions with just basic 4x4.
During the course, we sparingly used the lockers. We did use the trail control of the advanced 4x4 system and the manual low feature as well as a little trail turn assist but just as a demo. FWIW, I have a Basesquatch.
With the Nonsquatch BL, you can lift, space and wheel change later at your own pace.

There isn't an appreciable difference between the two when talking about off road. The Sasquatch package limits flex, but it's an inch higher at its lowest point. Its (body is) wider, which is a detriment off road. For all intents and purposes, the Sasquatch package is an appearance package. The Badlands is the off road Bronco.

Get the standard badlands with the 2.3 MT and 4.7 rear gear. That's probably the best all around Bronco trim you can get from the factory. Ours started this way, now its on 37s with lift. But I still prefer the standard badlands look over other factory trims including SAS. The sas pack is pretty nice but just sayin.

If you want to turn up the volume then remove and save if possible your OEM wheels/tires/4 crashbars located up in the front wheelwells. Or sell your OEM gear to help pay for the new gear. Then lift away etc.

Remember to recalibrate your speedo (use forscan or hypertech odometer) if you add bigger tires.

Super happy with Rapid Red, I believe I saw somewhere that fewer than 5% of 2021s are this color, so glad I chose something different! Maybe they’ll bring it back!

I went thru the same decision process that you did, and I realized that - at least in a 7MT Badlands - the SAS package was way too expensive. If you opt for the 7MT, the calculation seems wrong, it is like it charges you for the AT without giving you the AT. Shocks and tires are simple enough to change out down the road, if you want to upgrade later.

I didn't want to go through the process of adding a lift/larger tires, so I went with the factory SAS package. All depends what you want. I know plenty of people disagree with a manual SAS Badlands, but I got what I wanted.

Just expanding a bit off of what @Shoresy mentioned—he got most of it.
  • Wheels
    • Badlands: 17x8 +55
    • Sasquatch: 17x8.5 +30
  • Tires
    • Badlands: 285/70r17
    • Sasquatch: 315/70r17
  • Suspension:
    • Badlands: HOSS 2.0 w/ 0.67" lift over standard
    • Sasquatch: HOSS 2.0 w/ 1.10" lift over standard
  • Axle ratio
    • Badlands Automatic: 4.46
    • Badlands Manual: 4.70
    • Sasquatch (both transmissions): 4.70
  • Rear sway bar IS included with the Sasquatch package - This was new to 2022MY, 2021MY did not have it, and we do not yet know what 2023MY has (it probably will have it).
  • Crash Bars are NOT included with the Sasquatch package
  • Wider fender flares are included on the Sasquatch package
In my personal opinion, the biggest benefit of the Sasquatch package on the Badlands is the axle ratio. This also means if you ordered the manual transmission there really is no reason to get the Sasquatch package, it's just throwing away money in my opinion. If you are getting an automatic, it's kind of a toss-up. 4.46 axle ratio will handle 35" tires just fine, so it depends on if you intend on going larger than 35", if you like factory wheels/tires, etc. etc.

Really 33"s are plenty and are good all-arounders, and will be fine for most applications. Bigger than that either requires a specific use case or you like the looks.

The standard Badlands is more capable from the factory than most people will ever need. The big savings on the Sasquatch set up to me are the locking diffs, and you get those already on the Badlands.

Yep this just about sums it up. the differences between the badlands nosquatch and the Badlands Sasquatch is pretty minor they are even less if you do a nosquatch badlands with the 7-speed manual. that was my original build, until the Glades came out with DS color.

As has been discussed, there probably isn't a rational reason for getting the Sasquatch on a Badlands with manual transmission, but that is exactly what I did. I knew that you could get the improvements of the Sasquatch package at a lower cost aftermarket, but as someone who has never done real modifications to a vehicle, I got a certain piece of mind having it done from the factory.

At the end of the day if you read all these comments about how you don't need the Sasquatch package on your manual Badlands and you still have that little voice in the back of your head still wants it, just go ahead and get it. Yes, you are probably overpaying for what you get, but in the grand scheme of things, when you are paying $55K'ish for a vehicle, you should get exactly what makes you happy, even if it costs a few bucks more.

The only perfect Bronco is the one that makes YOU happy :).

I agree that there is little difference between the SAS and non-SAS Badlands IF you are getting the 7-MT which includes the 4.70 rear end. However, I will say that in off-roading every inch of clearance counts, and the SAS DOES give you a bit more more clearance. Having said that, you can easily get that aftermarket at a lower cost. Note that's especially true if yo do your own work. When I went to Moab Offrodeo mB group had both SAS and non-SAS Badlands in it. The non-SAS west everywhere that the SAS did. Sometimes they had to take a different line (there's that additional ground clearance) and had to be spotted more often than the SAS Badlands. Note that MOST of the drivers in both we beginners. What I came away from that with was that for a biginner the SAS was a bit more forgiving on the tougher obstacles. But with some experience, I suspect that the different would be hard to notice. Personally I have the SAS Badlands, and I love it. I love the way it looks, the way it handles on the highway, and the way it handles off-road so to me, it as worth the added money and the warranty.
