Hello Bronco Nation,

Question: I'm looking for suggestions on the last step of my build. The suspension. I'd like to find a good affordable set up for carrying 400 extra pounds of weight on my overland Bronco. I'm not looking necessary for a lift, but a tuned spring and shock package that's designed to carry extra load. Maybe get the Bronco back to it's original height before adding all the extras. Maybe 1" lift as a bonus.

The spring and shock must be tuned to work together for this purpose!

Ideas?

Already answered your question over on Bronco6G, but I'll copy/paste the answer here for the benefit of others. I also want to say that Old Man Emu suspension installed on the BN-owned Wildtrak (?), so many some of the BN crew can provide some feedback. (But I might of made that up, can't remember what that green-wrapped Bronco has.)

Old Man Emu suspension by ARB is probably the best bet you have right now. They have different suspension setups for different loads.

  • Front
    • Light - Factory
    • Medium - Aftermarket steel bumper OR winch
    • Heavy - Aftermarket steel Bumper AND winch
  • Back
    • Light - Factory
    • Medium - 150 kg added rear weight (~330 lbs)
    • Heavy - 300 kg added rear weight (~660 lbs)

They offer packages that have different combinations of front and rear suspension based on your trim level. Personally I bought mine from the Bronco Nation store—link—for the 10% member discount.

ADS isn't a budget option but it's the best. They have different part numbers for different setups. ADS is also the only true dual rate rear setup I am aware of for the Bronco. This allows greater adjustability for a plush ride and still have the ability to handle big hits like whoops, g outs or jump landings. Some systems like the Kings have dual springs but aren't dual rate since they don't have a crossover ring to limit the compression of the upper spring and allow the bottom spring to come in to play. The upper spring on their system is only limited when the spring is fully compressed in spring bind. When you purchase from us, we will talk to you about your setup and work with you and ADS to get your system dialed prior to shipping. You can rest assured you will get the best system out of the box because it won't go into the box until we get it set for your setup. I'm happy to work with you to come up with a set that will exceed your needs.
