I want to go back!

Jan 16, 2024

I had to run to the dealer for a part for my daughter's 2018 Ford Focus. I spotted a Bronco that had a ton of aftermarket parts sitting in the front corner of the dealer lot. I knew what I was seeing wasn't something that Ford sold stock or through Ford Performance parts, but it was odd to be parked up front with all the other new vehicles. After a few minutes at the parts department I strolled over to getter a better look, and lo and behold it was a 2023 King of the Hammers edition Bronco that was announced at last year's KOH. I didn't think I would ever see one of these!

The upgrades, vinyl graphics, and badges were awesome. This bronco had a terrific stance. They started with a Wildtrak and added a 4" lift, 37" tires, new front and rear steal bumpers, custom lights, a winch, and carbon fiber flares. Interior was baller.

And so was the price. Asking $126,000 for this. To me, that's flat out unreasonable when a Bronco Raptor is $91K.

Thing is, someone will go pay cash for it, lol.
I do like the bumper/winch setup/look.

I feel like I could take a stock Wildtrak and drop 40K into it to get it up to this level. Still not sure where the other 26k is coming from, value wise. And for resale value it would be better to buy a stock Raptor. But yeah, a fool and his money…

I do want to reiterate that the badges on this were really nice, and what the oem badges should have been instead of stickers.

Cool find, TD! I really liked the rear bumper back when these were introduced. And with the Jason Scherer-tuned shocks, I'm sure this feels like a dream to drive. It was out-performing a Bronco Raptor in the washes and whoops in JV. Lotta money, though.

That is a lot of cash for a spruced up Wildtrak. As others have pointed out, you could purchase a stock Wildtrak, and easily surpass this build with the parts you want, and still have money left over in your bank. This dealership has a Raptor on their lot for 94K and an added 10K would get you well beyond the Wildtrak's capabilities. As to the graphics and badging, any vinyl shop could produce those for you very inexpensively.
I think the dealer has been smoking a bit of crack and is fishing for a uninformed buyer, IMO.

I think you may be misjudging the buyers that this appeals to.... In my experience, having rubbed elbows with a few of them, They do not want to build a Bronco. They want to purchase a completed package and they want it "Branded". The few extra dollars spent on the branding is not a big deal to them. Some of them will mall crawl, some of them will take it out and beat the sh!t out of it just to prove themselves to others. Maybe a few will cherish it... but that will be a small percentage. It is like buying a $10,000 purse or a $50,000 watch...

I gotta say I can only speak for myself…I am inherently lazy and would gladly pay someone else an exorbitant amount of money to do this…oh wait I love to do this myself, never mind…🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Yeah, this might make a great display piece for the dealership until May 2024 when Omaha hosts the yearly Warren Buffet Shareholders meeting. Then it will be sold to some Saudi Prince to tear up the sand dunes. 😂

You are very correct Unicorn on your summation of the type of buyer that will purchase this vehicle. The dollar amount will have no bearing on their decision to purchase it. From my perspective it does not make any sense, but from theirs it will.

Back when I worked for a dealership in Highschool my boss had a saying, "For every seat there's an @ss"
But a KOH Bronco is still a pretty neat find.

I am in your camp... I love to build things. No one else is going to build mine. I will do a better job, it will be what I want and I will know every inch of it.

But yes I can still admire it and maybe get some ideas that I can incorporate into my build. And the dealer, until it sells, attracts a bunch of foot traffic that they can direct toward other more economically feasable options.

Whoa - I didn’t know they were actually gonna build the KOH as a production Bronco. I need to inquire with my dealer tomorrow and see what availability is like…

@TechnicalDisaster - I assume this was a 2024 model, right? Did you get to peep the window sticker or just the $126k price tag?
