We were under the assumption that the Bronco body panels were aluminum... in fact...

Actually the rear fenders are not aluminum. Earlier this year we discovered the rear fenders are steel during magnet body armor project. We were going to do rear fenders only (and still can!!) But we put our resources into other projects. We actually tried magnet armor on the whole vehicle. See pics taken earlier this year

What am I missing? I thought as per Ford all body panels were aluminum? (Haven’t tried a magnet)

so just the rear panels are steel? The remainder being aluminum?

thanks

The rear panels are steel and the floor pan unfortunately is steel too so be careful of water sitting up there because it will rust out over time

Way back when this all started, long before production began there were articles regarding Ford working with a manufacturer in, I think Georgia or Alabama, making a new type of high strength, lightweight, rust resistant steel. I can’t remember the percent they were gonna utilize on the Bronco. But I believe they were going away from the aluminum. I will try to find the article.

Anyone know the rationale behind this? Seeing as the rest of the body is aluminum?
