Softop Secure Storage

I have a 4-door soft-top on order and researching ways to secure my belongings if/when I need to leave them in the vehicle.

Yes, I'm aware that leaving valuables in the vehicle creates temptation and I won't likely often do so. But there will be times that I'm going to need reasonably reliable secure storage with doors / top off.

Does anyone have any experience (good or bad) with either of these accessories:

Specifically:
- if the doors / top are off and a would-be thief can access the inside of the vehicle, can they just hit the "unlock" button and be able to open the rear swing gate? Or is that "door" on a separate access system that is tied to the key fob/Ford Pass app?
- are there other / similar products that folks have found / use to achieve the same goal

Thanks in advance!

You might find this thread and video useful for the fixed: https://thebronconation.com/bronco-...install-guide-and-review-t.18290/#post-272191.

You bring up a point I've never considered ... someone else may know of something I'm not thinking about right now. Under vehicle settings, you can change what the fob unlocks (drivers or driver and passenger on the 2-door, assuming you can keep it to just driver on the 4-door), but the unlock button seems to always unlock the swing gate.

I bought the Diabolical Inc. enclosure. It is very nice, but the unlock doors button on the doors do open the tailgate door. I have not found a workaround from a vehicle function standpoint. So I bought the Ford Bronco security drawer as well.

I can't have the drawer installed at the same time as the Diabolical Inc. enclosure. It would be great if I could. I can have the top in place but the back wall does not fit properly with the drawer in place.

So if I am running with all the doors off, I can use the full enclosure. If I have the doors on, I will need to use the drawer. It is not that tall but can hold a fair amount.

Thanks for the first-person confirmation, @Hobgoblin. I guess the cargo enclosure is more meant to avoid prying eyes ... or people like me who would be dumb thieves and not try the unlock button šŸ˜‚

The door lock/unlock button is on the door itself so if you are rolling doors off there is no button to push. I think that is why the door lock button is on the door and the window switch is on the consul.

Laura, I think it would work great with the doors off as a full security enclosure. Since they can't have access the to door lock button when the doors are off, they couldn't unlock the tailgate. We tested it several ways and the doors unlock by just reaching in when the windows are down and you hit the unlock button.

Would be great if they updated the software to have it so the tailgate could be adjusted for the way you would like it to unlock. That way it could be a full security at all times. Maybe the will look to update that. It would be great if they would.

Thanks for the feedback. Follow up Q: are there lock/unlock button on the rear doors? I may run just front doors off and leave rear doors on if the kids/dog are on-board. If only the front doors are off, does that prevent a would-be thief from pressing an unlock button? Thanks again all!

Ok just checked it out. There are no lock unlock buttons on the rear doors. You have to flip the unlock with your finger but it only unlocks that door not all doors, you can do the same thing with the fronts if you just want to unlock one door. So you should be good if you go just front doors off.

Hmmmm...ok. Doing some additional research, I found another owner who made the following statement:

"I remotely locked the door with the driver side window open and placed the remote away. I reached in to unlock with both the button and the mechanical Lever/toggle. Dash flashed a message: 'Switches Inhibited Security Mode.' So, all doors actually will not open even when someone breaks the window or reach in - if the bronco is topless. Looks like the enclosure will be secure unless forcibly opened.

Conclusion: interior switches are disabled when remotely locked.

UPDATE: I locked it without using the fob with the window open. I reached in and tried unlocking and got the same prompt from the dashboard. Cool!"

I'd be interested to know if you have the same experience. Have you tried putting your fob(s) out of range and trying to unlock? If the above is true, the full enclosure should be 100% secure (outside of some sort of destructive entry) when the vehicle is topless/doorless.

We tried many permutations of not having the remote close by and the doors unlocked every time we reached into the driver's side and used the unlock switch. There may be some setting that could be adjusted.

It is strange that it is this difficult. Hopefully we can all get it figured out. Keep up the great work researching.

One note on the differences between the Ford enclosures and the Diabolical inc one is that the Diabolical one allows you to fold down the wall that goes against the back seats when they are down. That way you can carry longer items more easily and use that full space when it is down. It also has a little door with a lock so you can access the rear items from the back seat. Not sure I would use it, but it is nice that it has it.

I had the Ford security drawer and the fitment for it, well, lacking a better term, plain stunk. I'm using it as a drawer on some shelving in my garage now.

I went and bought the Diabolical enclosure with the rivet-in molle panels and the marine panels on the top and am extremely happy with it. I've been developing my load plan for it for trips, and I can get a rolling Yeti cooler, all my recovery gear and a weekend bag underneath it and keep the interior of the bronco clean for off roading.

To prevent people opening your doors, use the "Switch Inhibit" setting on the infotainment system.

I wish I had bought this to begin with and not wasted the money on the Ford drawer.

BTW, Allen at Diabolical is a fellow veteran and really a good guy. They're local to me, so I picked it up "will call" at their building, conveniently located next door to Teraflex.

Chris D, You Rock! That is what we needed.

This is great news. I no can be flexible in how I use them. The drawer works alright for most of my needs. Will look to make that adjustment and then can get the full enclosure going as needed. Thanks!

BTW, Allen is great. He is always willing to help and speak with you.
