I’ve seen many posts of scratched paint on the roll bar from people folding the tops back.

Do yourself a favor and pick up a roll of clear UHMW tape and put it on the side of the roll bar that gets scratched. This will protect it and keep your roll bars looking new! You can also use it on the door sills to protect them being scratched from people getting in and out.;)

Here is a link to a clear roll of 3” x 15’ that will protect your investment.

Wouldn’t you put it on the soft top itself? Just worried about paint and the tape glue..

No residue on the tape. Worse case scenario, get some goo begone

I use the clear tape on door sills. Keeps them from getting scratched up.

Speaking of these kind of things, how do you guys cover the tether anchors on the back part? We have a 2018 Ford Explorer but I’m guessing the broncos will have them too since the feds had to mandate this kind of crap

Great suggestion!

I just attended Off-Roadeo in NH and noticed the scratch prone area and based on the sub-optimal design this product should be factory installed but isn’t.

If people lift where it says lift and go at a gentle pace there are no issues!

LOL - I agree that a little common sense goes a long way but a little protection will save your paint! (It’s like door sills - sure you should enter gently and not slide your shoes across them but everyone does so an ounce of prevention…)

BTW - great looking Bronco @Zap74

While I appreciate the suggestion, I also wholeheartedly believe that in 2021 people should not need to patchwork fix a new car. All of thes little issues are the types of things that I never had a problem with my 5 Acura cars. Or if I did they were quickly addressed by the dealer/manufacturer. Having this as a topic is ridiculous to me.

It’s ridiculous to see you had to comment then. Personally, I like good advice, things people have seen and want others to know. Now that I know, I can order this still since hopefully in about a month, I’ll have my ride and take care of any issues like this. Toujours Prêt

If you look, you will see in the first part of my sentence that I am positively acknowledging people giving advice like this and when I actually get my Bronco I may invest in this as well. I was not criticizing that. What I was doing was commenting on the fact that a new $60k truck should not have to be “taped” to prevent damage while said truck is doing exactly what it is supposed to be doing(opening and closing the soft top roof amongst many other defects and issues). That was my point that the design and execution is somewhat incompetent and that a $30k-$50 brand of cars/SUVs are able to miraculously do what they are supposed to do without incident.

Anybody got a pic so We know where to look? Might be something worth adding to the “Taking Possession: Things to Look For” thread.

IMO taping areas exposed to possible damage is a great idea. Just like the doors being susceptible to damage (edges hitting things and paint chipping) you as a buyer are responsible for adding some kind of protection or purchasing a dealer applied product. I happen to be friends with a guy that owns a body shop. He adds the door edge tape on every vehicle he works on.

Just happened upon this while looking for photos of where it’s actually rubbing. Never heard of this place and not endorsing it. Just sharing.

I watched the video. He uses a thin film that is precut to the shape of the roll bar.

The UHMW tape will not bend around the bend in the roll bar. You will have to use 2 or 3 pieces of tape and cut them to fit to make the bend.

I know and get what you were saying and we all agree, one shouldn’t have to do these kind of things. Till we get those tops fix, it is what it is, I was just using your ‘ridiculous” cause its a word that is somewhat harsh, and was Trying to be sarcastic about it, I should have been more clear, and I apologize for that. We’re good in my book

Thank you very much and I appreciate your apology. It is rare to see that on any site. We are cool.

i ordered one cause it looks good, ease, and hope it will do the trick I just hope there isnt an issue with the paint before I get it. I still might get that tape for the doors or whatever else
