So, everything has shut down because someone mentioned snow, and it ends up being just a wintery mix of sleet and ice. All of county roads in my county are iced over, so the county claimed them undrivable... which means I am stuck on the ranch (I live on a twisty county road), plus the bridge over the creek is almost a solid sheet of ice. Got these pics of the icicles on the Bronco and the Jeeps, and drove around my property to see nothing but ice everywhere. Just FYI - if the county or police deem roads impassable, do not drive on them, if you wreck your insurance does not have to cover any of the damage since you assumed all risks when you pulled out of your driveway!

Same here iced over wanted to get the Bronco out to see how it performs but can’t stand the thought of scratching it let alone bending it. It’s staying in the garage 😂

Well, if you HAVE to get out while they are undriveable, take the Jeep, not the Bronco. 😂

The only running on the ranch today is my SxS or my Polaris - no way I am driving on the sheets of ice.

Yeah, most people don't. I was an agent in a previous life - and it socks to have to tell people that their ride wasn't covered due to the roads being closed.

As most of us are aware, as soon as there is any type of snow event, the amount of crashes goes up exponentially. I was pleasantly surprised to read that in some states your auto insurance is void if you drive when the county or police deem the roads impassable. Unfortunately, this is not the case in Canada.
Personally, I would like to see this expanded to "if you are in a accident during a snow event without proper winter tires on your vehicle, your insurance is automatically null and void".
This would greatly reduce the amount of chaos on our roads that snow events create, and should be applied to commercial vehicles as well.
The amount of claims made during a snow event due to bad decisions by drivers ill equipped to handle the conditions, drives up everyone's auto insurance rates on an ongoing basis.

We are still seeing wrecks here, even on the main roads - heck most of the time people can barely drive in good weather let alone when it gets wet or icy. I grew up driving in all types of weather, and off-roading in different terrains - and I hate driving on the roads when they get icy - I know that the Bronco can move through the conditions, and I also know what to do if something goes sideways - I choose not to drive in it because of the other people on the road that think they can! LOL

Stay safe, keep the shiny side up.

Yep the Bronco is at home even though the ice is gone today in South Texas. I didn't want to risk the other drivers, heck it is a chore to keep people from hitting Darryl on a good day.😆

So what critters you running on your ranch. We have Boer Goats, Llamas and Donkeys.

I miss big snow being in AZ.....going outside to take my hard top off to do some driving this afternoon in the 65 degree temps.....LOL

How would insurance treat it if you drove to work, then it turned into a blizzard during the day and then the city "closed the roads". Can I call my insurance company to send me a helicopter to take me home?

Wasn’t too bad here in T-Town. Tomorrow will probably be worse since the sun came out long enough to thaw a little of it and it’s already freezing again. I went to town today to pick up supplies for tomorrow’s soup-kitchen. Hopefully the roads will be clear and we can feed a good crowd.

Did have a pipe burst. Nothing serious, just an outside faucet. I cut it and capped it for now. I’ll fix it once it warms up again. lol.

We breed English and Duobull Mastiff's, other than that we don't have any other critters as of yet - there is a coyote problem in this area - a new neighbor move in down the road with goats, tried to warn him about the coyotes, but he knows more than me - he has already lost some goats. After the weather gets better, predator hunts will have to happen.

Not sure if this is a big issue for you or not but we use these up in this country to eliminate the freezing faucet issue. Just a thought.

I have one of those on my house! In south central Texas. They even sell them at the box stores. But it is not very common around these parts.

Nice, going for the small dogs I see. LOL
We run a combination of donkeys, llamas, geese, Great Pyrenees and Anatolian’s and electric fence. Haven’t lost a goat to a predator in 25 years did lose a goat to an oak tree once but that is another story.

DDavis, what actually eats more, a Clydesdale or a Mastiff? I know the Mastiff poops more.😁

I have 4 English Mastiffs and 1 Bullmastiff, and we do go through a little bit of food - but not as much as you think. The biggest one is right at 250 pounds, the lightest one is the bullmastiff at 160 pounds.
