I have a Black Diamond, 2.3L manual transmission. Road conditions change between dry pavement and snow / ice quite often on a single stretch of road. While driving down the road can you shift back and forth between 2 high and 4 high without stopping or slowing down?

Yes, however I would recommend slowing when you shift into or out of 4H to let the actuators lock/unlock...and only when going is a straight line. Never switch when turning..

I'm not sure how familiar you are with 4x4 systems, but here's a good overview of the Ford systems (not Bronco specific, but gives some good info). Hope this helps.

Yes you can with the manual transfercase. But just checking, did you get the advanced transfercase?
Great point! I forgot you can get the advanced with the 7MT.

By selecting 4A, you don't have to worry about when to shift into/out of 2 vs 4H.

When you mention the advanced transfer case, I didn't think there was a choice with the manual transmission. I have the base Black Diamond with the only option being a trailer hitch. How would I tell if the transfer case is advanced?

It would have a 4A on your dial.

The Advanced 4x4 system has an electromechanical transfer case with a mode called 4-Auto (4A on the GOAT mode dial)... which is an AWD-like mode. If you don't have 4-Auto, then you have the standard electronic shift-on-the-fly transfer case.

The Advanced 4x4 system is included with the Sasquatch package as well as the Badlands, Everglades, and Wildtrak trims. It is an optional upgrade on Black Diamond and Outer Banks.

Anyway... 2.3L manual transmission owner here. Personally, I stick the transmission in neutral to complete the shift—even when the vehicle is moving. I find that the shifts are a lot smoother that way.

AND $750 less richer in his wallet 😁

True 😅

Honestly, I'm not sold on 4A yet. Last year decided to see how it was working, and it was more like 4wd than on-demand 4wd. If you touched the gas, power was sent to the front, let off gas, power only to rear. Didn't seem to have anything to do with experiencing wheel slippage or anything. 🙈

I ordered the advanced 4x4 on my non sas BD manual mainly for the gear reduction. 4L and crawl gear idles at 1mph and can take some pretty rough obstacles without worrying about the clutch. Haven’t noticed a driving difference between 4H and 4A though. As stated by others it seems to function exactly like 4H

Just to be precise though, the Black Diamond is the only trim you can get the optional Advanced transfercase matched with the 7sp manual without adding Sasquatch. In the Base, Big Bend, the Advanced transfercase match with the manual is available only with 'Squatch. In the Outer Banks, there is no manual transmission option. You can order the Advanced transfercase as a standalone option, but the only transmission offered on the OB is the 10spd automatic 'Squatch or non-Squatch.
Not true.
My Badlands MT has 4A. And no Sasquatch.
