I'm taking the family camping in the Empire/Sleeping Bear Dunes area of Michigan next week. Looking for some fun back roads and trails to hit while I'm up there. Nothing two hairy, as my wife is not 100% comfortable with off roading with our daughters in the car yet. I fired up the Bronco Trail app and it doesn't appear that there is a single trail within a couple of hours. Any other recommendations, such as good restaurants, cool hikes, quirky roadside attractions, etc. would be welcome as well.

Stop by Riverside on M 22 they will set you up with tubing and paddle boats kayaks on the Platte River. Take the road beside Riverside to the mouth of the Platte river. It is beautiful. there is a State salmon hatchery right outside of honor open to the public. Pretty cool.

I believe silver lake sand dunes aren't too far from there. That is a lot of fun to do and it's beautiful out there. Remember if you go on any OHV trails you need to get the sticker for your car for off roaring in MI

Ooh, my daughters would love the tubing! Thanks for the suggestion!

Ah, good to know! It would have never occurred to me that you couldn't just drive down a dirt road without having a sticker. I wonder how someone from out of state would even know that if they were just driving around?

Take a look here. They sell them at most Walmarts and Meijer stores plus a lot of sporting goods stores. You could also order them online.
