Scam Artist?!?!

Has anyone dealt with this Jeff Wilson?

He responded to my post and informed me he had an OEM rear steel bumper for sale.

We brokered a deal and he insisted I use ApplePay. I didn’t have ApplePay so he suggested PayPal. I paid him (apparently to his daughters PayPal account). He insisted he never got the money.

I contacted PayPal who confirmed the transaction was successful. I sent him screenshots of the PayPal convo with chat agent, the PayPal payment confirmation, and the transaction from my credit card statement as proof.

Still, he refused to ship the bumper. He proceeded to tell me that the PayPal account I sent money to was frozen and I would have to send it to his business partners PayPal.

So, I requested a chargeback from Capital One and they returned the first payment to me. I sent him a second payment and he confirmed that he did receive that money and that he would ship the bumper and provide a tracking number.

Now, usually I’m a pretty good identifier of fraud (I’m a criminal investigator and have investigated a lot of PayPal, Zelle, etc fraud cases)

This one had some sketchy stuff, but 50 something emails back and forth kind of had me thinking the guy was legitimate.

So, now I’ve paid him, twice. It’s been four business days and he is not responding to any more emails or texts. I have also not received any tracking info. He stated he would be shipping via FedEx, and my app shows nothing en route to me.

Has anyone dealt with this guy yet? I’d be careful if he tries to sell you something. Shady dude….

UPDATE: Confirmed he is fraud.

Well that sucks, sorry to hear it. Probably best to just buy local in the future. Personally, I would've stopped after 1st payment, but to each their own. Good luck going forward.

If you google "pay pal Fraud" or "Zelle Fraud" scams this is exactly what you will find happens. I sell a lot of items on FB marketplace and these scams are all over. I think you've been had.

I'm sorry you've had to go through this. I hope it works out in the end. If nothing else, this guy is on our collective radar. If that is in fact his real name. But thank you for raising our awareness! I'm crossing my fingers for you.

I thought I saw a few days ago someone mentioning this exact situation Bronco Bumper scam. I would probably only buy from someone I could meet face to face and pick it up.

Dang that sucks.

Thank you so much for trying to warn the community. It is a kind and courteous thing to do. I hope you didn’t get taken too badly. I understand even losing one dollar to a scum bucket like this is a hard pill to swallow. I am a big believer in karma, he will get double the payback someday .

Yea. I typically never do business with people who insist on PayPal or Zelle transactions. I can’t trust their account. This guy got me though. He was really convincing because he said he only accepted Apple Pay. He actually didn’t even want to use PayPal at first. I told him it’s either PayPal or he could post on FB Marketplace and I could pay through the app.

He said he wasn’t on FB. That’s believable because alot of people aren’t. The only sign he gave that he was a fraud was his apparent lack of the English language. It wasn’t terrible, but he wasn’t the best at grammar. I should have known, but then again, voice to text apps mess up the grammar and wording alot.

Scammers be gettin good. You know how when you find out you’ve been defrauded through a payment app you call the cops to make a report? I’m the one that shows up and investigates. I even know these fraudsters are usually in Russia, China, or Africa. Never thought I’d be getting got…

I REPORTED HIM TO THE MODERATORS WHEN I SNIFFED HIM OUT AS A SCAMMER AND THEY SAID TECHNICALLY THAT HE HAD NOT DONE ANYTHING WRONG YET!!! Unbelievable, that they did not remove him. They should reimburse you for enabling.

On the “other” site, they are requiring sellers to post ads with the item and their user name posted in the photo with the item. I suggest BN consider removing posts offering something to sell without actually posting the item and verification as just explained. This might help?

Yes, from Massachusetts 978-272-3771! He responded to my WTB a Modular Bumper thread about two weeks ago. I posted on here that I suspected fraud. You are right, he tried the hard sell on me to send him money and then he would ship the bumper. I tried in vain to get him to list it on eBay and even offered to pay him $100 over his $600 asking price and pay shipping for his trouble so that we both were protected in the transaction process. He refused. I told him that if he wanted me to trust him to ship the bumper after he received payment, then he should be willing to trust me to send the payment after I received the bumper. I even tried to get him to use PayPal "business" to make the transaction and he refused. He avoided every legitimate suggestion for a was for both of us to be protected in the transaction, so I knew it had to be a fraud attempt.

PSA: Run from J. Wilson or WilsonJ83 if you ever hear from him.
