Hi all, I took delivery of my 2-Door Sasquatch a few weeks ago (photo) and want to get a rooftop tent but have no experience with them. I saw this on amazon and am thinking about it buying it to mount.

Experienced RTT users, what are some pros/cons that you've experienced? I'm going to be camping for 25+ days this year and want something that's going to last as it's a big investment.

Thanks!

The big Con is that you could roll out of bed, and fall on the ground! o_O
However, you'll be less apt to get eaten by a Bear!

It says it is 165lbs. I don't recall what the capacity rating for a Bronco of something on the roof.

Im not a fan of roof top tents. As a middle-aged dude, I have to stumble out of bed at least once a night to visit the facilities and this is just one more chance for me to fall off a ladder. If that is not your issue- the nice thing is that the set-up can be super fast, and that (IMHO) makes camping that much nicer.

There are two weight ratings you need to consider- the static rating (total amount of weight with the truck still - You, your tent, your gear) and the dynamic rating- (your tent and what ever else is on the truck when it is moving). The static one is 450lbs, so depending on you and your gear, you are probably okay. Its like 110lbs for dynamic one so you may have an issue with that one.

Unless they changed them, the dynamic rating is 110 lbs and the static rating is 450 lbs. That means you shouldn't have more than 110 lbs on the roof while driving (dynamic weight) or 450 lbs while stopped (static weight). You will find very few roof top tents that meet those limitations, and I would question the material/durability of a tent that weighs 110 lbs or less.

Roof top tents have pros, for sure, but they also have many cons (wind, noise, putting it away wet, moving to other locations, etc.). If I were you, I'd do a search on Youtube and watch some videos on the cons, because they may be annoying enough that you forego the roof top tent.

I will say, they scream hardcore overlander!

Check out this thread. Looks like they are building a rack with a higher weight rating. Not sure what they have as far as a tent that might attach to it.

That rack has a lower static rating, which means you can't use it with most tents...well, not with people in it.
