I must say I am totally hooked. I found driving with the doors off to be natural, especially off road. I have ridden dirt bikes, street bikes, enduros, ATV's, side by sides all my life so off roading in a truck seems to come natural. I really enjoyed the sound on the tires especially sliding in corners and when jamming on the brakes and skidding. I can see how a shifter would be real nice especially being in the right gear exiting corners. I will have to try the manual shifter on the auto; however, I always find then wanting. I would have liked more torque and to be in a better gear at times. With the doors off I felt closer to the dirt road which I liked. It seems pretty safe. The unfortunate coming off the road and into a tree limb in the head is hopefully is not going to happen. As well, if you roll it seems you should be alright (I don't plan too). On a dirt bike hitting a tree, it is all over, a helmet ain't going to help you then. I came upon a beautiful unsuspecting black bear and he took off quickly. Usually on a dirt bike they are startled but when you come around a corner in a Bronco, they take notice.
I was surprised at the dust flying in my eyes and all over. I guess I should have figured that. As well, I will take out all the floor mats next time as they fly around. In one picture by the small body of water you can see the front floor mat passenger side is already out. I had to store it like everything else that was flying around. It seems you really can't have much inside the truck. I had to stop a couple of times to re organize and had to stow a sweater a few times under the back seat.
I am sure I will enjoy some aggressive rock crawling but sliding around on a dirt road is a hoot. I put the vehicle into sport more for some more pep and on came traction control and it went back into two wheel. I forgot it is only for the road.
What a blast. With all the doors and roof off you can really feel the dirt road, I didn't expect to be so connected. It was awesome.
