Captain's log: After ripping thought the sandy desert of Tonto National Forest (entering where 87 meets N Bush Hwy), I am convinced my Bronco might actually be the best Bronco out there. 😂 (I take no issue with claims to the contrary. In fact, I welcome them!)
Had such a blast. I'm from the east coast, so this whole desert-planet living you guys have going on out here (AZ) is new to me, and pretty cool. You have guys and gals whipping around in all manner of knobby-wheeled vehicle. Some nice folks chillin in and around a mobile home they dragged out into this oceanless beach. Right on! And of course, popity-pop-pop gunshots as people get their target practice in. And it was a beautiful day for it!
For my part, I was out there zipping through the sand at 40ish MPH in Baja mode. Sharp left! Sharp right! I'm sending sand and gravel up to heaven! As if that was not fun enough, there are trails that lead up and deeper into the mountains. It got technical--I think these trails may have been better suited for SxS's, but the Bronco didn't ask any questions! The vehicle worked perfectly. I think I was in Mud and Ruts, but I applied locking as necessary. I used quite a bit of 4L now that I think of it
At one point, coming down a mountain, I thought I was going to roll it. I was at 21 degrees, but at off-rodeo, I was at 25 degrees, and the instructor side some folks get up to 30 degrees in the section we were doing! However, he also suggested, there's no magic number, and there are many factors... when your hands start sweating and your sphincter starts clinching up, you're pretty much done. Welp, my hands got sweaty, but I backed it up and tried a few approaches until one made felt doable. phew.
It was like beating the level boss. After that it was all downhill and I tore through the sand back to 87 South.
Get out and do the thing y'all!
(The cyber orange line is the part I forgot to track.)
