Hi, I am buying my Bronco as a long term family member, but just wondering...which will hold it's value better...a 21 Badlands/lux in a cancelled color (antimatter Blue) or a similarly equipped 22?

Any new vehicle is holding value right now. You literally cant miss. But with an apples to apples the vehicles with more bells and whistles are easier to sell bc of their desirability.

Ya, agree, I was thinking longer term...will anyone care that it is a first model year in 5-10 years if I go to upgrade? or if I hold it 20 years and now it's a classic? Obviously it's an academic question...

Resale in 10 years is going to be like any other used car. There will too many of them out there to see a rise in value. There is nothing special about the Bronco. If the engine/ trans were something special and featured like no others, maybe.

Only the market will decide our fates. Could be bad, could be good. I would say depreciation will be similar to the rubicon... on a badlands.

There are certain attributes a car needs to have collector car status. Above all it has to be desirable.
With the EVs coming on the market, right now there is going to be shift in interest away from internal combustion powered cars. Provided they can figure out how to charge the EVs.
The effects of carbon capture and how the market will respond is unknown.

Honestly, a 2022 Base Manual 2-door Sasquatch will probably hold the most value in 10 years.

Just my $0.02

Non-specialty vehicles are depreciating assets however future values will be predicated on scarcity. Since 2021 will represent the lowest production quantity, they will LIKELY hold their values better than subsequent, non-specialty vehicles produced in 2022. YMMV (y)
- 2023 Raptor / Shadow Black / MGV (DOB 8/30/23)
- 2023 Heritage Limited Edition / Robin’s Egg Blue / 4dr / (stolen from my dealer 11/15/23)

Concur...this is how I was thinking about it...but other folks have made some good points...In 20 years, are Bronco's more akin to Explorers then 2020 Corvettes? Does the world all of a sudden drop interest in ICE's because Electrics are available? Personally I think an interesting Bronco is way more fun than a 2021 Tesla....Do people only find interest in the early electric Bronco's and IC Broncos are the antichrist? And I agree with the 2021 2 dr base is most likely holds value best...and the lux badlands probably IS an explorer...but who knows...but interesting to think about...at least for me...

and yes, I really am buying it for off road fun with my kids..who no longer fit in the back seat of my convertible...and I had a 78 Bronco when I was a kid...so several reasons converging on this purchase for me...

Thanks to all for the comments

I think in the next 20 years or so it won’t make a difference. 30+ if the stars align the AMB might be a rare collector color, but we really don’t know how many AMB are being made this year yet, many may have changed colors after they announced it was being discontinued? Ford might pick AMB back up again, in which case it won’t be so rare.

I think with collector cars tho it’s more about being low miles and in great original shape as close to original as possible, whatever that may be. Specific Lil details may make small difference, but not as much as OEM condition. I think there are better things to invest in if that’s what you’re looking for, cars are a commodity, get what you want

I do not know about my 2021 Outer Banks holding its value, however for reference I bought a 2021 Chevy Spark to use as a RV Dingy before my Bronco came in. It cost $14340.00 out the door (lowest priced car in America and it is a good fun car) I sold it with 1100 miles Carvana for $16477.00. (Really the check was good). Chevy dealer offered $12000.00 Dodge deale $13000.00.

My wife has a Lincoln Aviator 2020 3.0 twin turbo 400 HP or more and that car is quick. If Bronco puts that motor in the Bronco Raptor it will be a blast. I am a former first year Raptor owner that had the 5.4 and it was fun to drive, but my son's 6.2, also a 2010 was much more fun. The new Raptor gets 500 hp from the same 3.0. Put that in a Bronco, much more fun.

Also remember rarity does not always make it worth more. Example I use is my brother had one of the rarest Mustangs a 1982 GT automatic red on red but the automatic had a 4.6 V8 (but still has the 5.0 badges on the side). The smaller motor makes it less desirable. Now that said nobody knows what the future holds for the Bronco. Could be like the 03-07 F250 with the 6.0 power stroke there was a time those were not worth scrap. Full disclosure I do own a 2004 that is now a Fummins.
