I found a shop that'll use any oil and trans fluid you provide, which is good as I want to get some Red line MT-LV 70W/75W GL-4, but now I'm wondering which 5w-30 to get that's basically the best bang for the buck for a spirited daily.

Talking full synthetic, no American cheese blended crap. What do you guys recommend? Thanks in Advance

I've always used Mobil 1 full synthetic, usually $25 USD for five quarts at Wally

For the 5-30 I only use Mobile 1 Full Synthetic. My dear also recommends it and will also use it when I bring it to them.
But I do my own oil changes and only use the dealer as a last resort, if I'm too busy.
I have a 15 gallon plastic barrel where I pour the old into. The dealer will let me bring it to him when it's full.
They use it to heat the shop during the winter. Also, I change my oil every 3,000 miles, even though the recommendation is
between 5,000 or 7,000 or even 10,000. I stocked up on oil, filters and drain plugs. I buy the oil from Costco when it's on sale.

(Don't want to hear about being wasteful for doing it every 3,000 miles)
I live in AZ where we have extreme heat. Right now it's running between 112 to 115 degrees daily

Thanks guys, looks like I'm going Mobil 1 once I get paid (Too many family birthdays this summer)

Dealers pulling that 7k crap, I'm gonna only go back once I get that free service from them, otherwise gonna get quality parts.

BTW: The filters were easy to get, but the drain plugs took a couple of weeks which I why I stocked up.
And with the oil price fluctuations, ever increasing, is why I stocked up on it also.

They were really smart with the placement. It's on top of the engine and you will not spill a drop of oil. Not like when they are mounted under the engine.
It's the easiest ever to do

Mobil1 full syn and m1 filter.
The 2.3 uses a traditional filter, not the cartridge type in the 2.7.

My two go-tos:
  • Pennzoil Ultra Platinum
    • Manufactured in Texas (usually)
    • Owned by a British company (Shell)
  • Amsoil Signature Series
    • Manufactured in Wisconsin
    • Family-owned American company
Both of those are high-end American-made synthetic oils and cost quite a bit. If you want something more "bang for your buck", Pennzoil Full Synthetic is what I'd go with, and that's what I use on my older vehicles. There is also Pennzoil Platinum, but the prices tend to vary widely on that oil... sometimes it is closer to the Pennzoil Full Synthetic price (which makes it a good deal), and other times it is closer to the Pennzoil Ultra Platinum price (bad deal). The Motorcraft full synthetic is also really good, but somewhat hard to find, and when you do find it, it can be overpriced. It is manufactured by ConocoPhillips.

For the filter I use Motorcraft. The FL-910-S filter (2.3L filter) is really good for the price, so I stick with that on all of my Ford vehicles (all three use the same filter). Usually buy them in bulk at my dealership for a discounted price.

When it comes to synthetics you have the Big Boy on the block: Mobil1
Amsoil is also very popular as is Royal Purple (Yes it really is purple for those that have never seen it)
Pennzoil makes a pretty good full synthetic using Natural Gas as its base, that starts it off really really pure.

Let me give you a quick idea before I start. When I refer to base stock oil, think of this as a broth for soup that you put everything else like chicken and vegetables into, those other things are the additive packets that transform the base stock into usable motor oil.

When it comes to synthetic motor oils just ensure that you are using the correct weight for your engine and climate, and that the API number is correct for your vehicle.

Pay attention however, some manufactures are cheating the system a bit, the current motor oil standards put out state that a motor oil can be classified as a synthetic even if it starts off as a MINERAL BASE STOCK. That means that the manufacturer takes good old fashion crude oil and filters the holy heck out of it until the base oil is super duper clean. Then they slam it full of full synthetic additives until it reaches a specific ratio of synthetic parts verses mineral parts and then all of a sudden you get a synthetic motor oil, note that it is branded as a Synthetic NOT a blend. This is a much cheaper process for manufacturers then starting with a TRUE FULL SYNTHETIC as a base stock.

Mobil for example has the famous and much loved Mobil1 Synthetic Oils, that is a 100% synthetic oil. However the Mobil Full Synthetic is classified as a Full Synthetic that uses a mineral oil as its base stock oil.

Now please do not think that I am trying to bash the mineral base synthetics . . . they are legally classified as Full Synthetics and most of them are good motor oils, however I personally think that they are cheating by not explaining that they start with a mineral base oil. They just let their customers think that it is the same quality as the true full synthetic brand labels and therefor pay higher prices.

These are my personal opinions and are not necessarily the views of The Bronco Nation, its employees or anyone else that disagrees with me.

 :ROFLMAO:

Just remembered I got 7qts of Pennzoil sitting around in my garage for 2 years, think it's 5w-30

Hot and cold weather, not really temperature controlled, still decent or naw?

I honestly would be more worried about condensation build up in the oil. I guess it would depend on your area humidity, but I wouldn't use it in my cars, maybe the mower.

These cheeseball oil tests are too much. Oil threads are just getting too stupid. Just use quality synthetic oil, factory or better filters and change your oil regularly. When I did my first oil change on my Bronco at 4k the oil looked great, but I changed it anyway just to remove any possible metal particles, engine assembly lubes, etc. I used Mobil 1. If you really want to know use Blackstone oil labs I used them on my Chevys with 330/160k miles they were telling me I could go beyond 5k with vehicles that turns the oil much darker now with that mileage. Trust Blackstone they are good guys and tell you how your engine is and how your oil is doing.
