Raptor wind noise with painted hardtop

inJust recently totaled a Wildtrack with the MIC top with ford installed Liner. We upgraded to a new Raptor with the painted hardtop. The vehicle is great, but the wind noise over 50mph is noticeably louder than the Wildtrack. Is this a known issue? I've got a set of Hot Head liners on the way for the front. Ford included some small pad like liners in the insets, but I'm not sure they help.

The tops are the same so we know that they are loud. But maybe the extra noise has something to do with the bigger tires, engine, exhaust? There are several people who have gone from a regular Bronco up to the BRaptor. @Roughstock11 is one. Maybe he can provide some insight into this?

I have a 24 Badlands I just bought and it came with the painted top and supposed sound deadner from Ford. I too have noticed that the external sound when going over 50 is bad and think it has to do with the smaller pads. Not sure how to fix this other than cranking up the radio more.

Maybe the painted tops are a different material inside? Not just the paint, but something else?

That's my thought. I've only had itaa week, so we haven't even pulled the front panels off other than to make sure a seal wasn't bad.

iI wondered if the larger tires or the vents on the hood and fenders could contribute to some additional turbulence. Sounds ridiculous, but it's definitely wind noise. We spent 5 months with the Wildtrack so can tell you the Raptor is definitely louder (the wind).

I don't find it noisy at all. Once and awhile it dawns on me that I am in a vehicle with a removable roof but very rarely. Maybe its just me. It is a very comfortable, enjoyable ride. My Black Diamond had a soft top and I did notice the noise in that vehicle. One of our other vehicles is our F250. It not completely quite as well. I wish I could help. The Raptor does not bother me at all and I have driven it across the country a couple of times. Well over 2000 miles each way.

Seems all these tops are hit and miss. Maybe they can fix the alignment or something. Can you pin point where the wind noise is coming from?

Hmmmm - this is interesting @ncartermusic The MIC hardtop on my Raptor is quieter than the painted MOD top on my Heritage. Both have the sound deadening inserts.

As @Jakob1972 suggested, perhaps you have misaligned panel or a seal that is not properly seated to crimped. I would suggest that you remove the panels, apply some lubricant (I suggest SylGlide) to the seals and then reinstall while making sure all of the rubber bits are properly oriented to ensure the best/proper seal.

That is my feeling too. I have the seal lubricant from the last Bronco and I will remove all of them and apply. All of the super supportive comments from this thread that remind me that the top is removable aside, this top is substantially louder than the MIC top from my Wildtrack Sasquatch model from just a few weeks ago.

Thinking about this more, IIRC Ford has a different supplier for the MOD tops than the MIC tops and it is likely that they are making all of the painted tops too (i.e. your Braptor top) so perhaps it’s all just a simple manufacturing change that has resulted in poorer acoustic performance. I guess this would also validate my observation between my 2 tops. I currently have a soft top on my Braptor (shhhh - don’t tell Ford, they say it doesn’t fit) so I can’t do a side by side comparison until I swap the hard top back on in a couple of weeks. Stay tuned…

I`m always amazed when I hear noise complaints about hardtop equipped Broncos.
