Question about Lights...Marker Lights

I've seen a lot of discussion about marker lights on the trucks.. I know the Raptor has the lights above the grill, along with other vehicles putting them there.. I saw mention about upcoming guidelines etc.. them being required.. etc.. Whats the skinny on that? When do the marker lights above the grill become 'mandatory' Or am i just misunderstanding form from function.

The lights are required when a vehicle passes a certain width. All dualies are require because they past that point.

the lights for the Bronco and sport are so distinctive that adding the raptor light would make it look cheesy. What's next the Angry eye brow look too?
