Protective Paint Coating Pros and Cons

Have my OB 2.7 Oxford White Bronc order and have added the Protective Paint coating. What’s everyone’s thoughts on this, worth it or not?

The PPF covering that Ford is offering is effectively a “clear bra”. It will help protect against rock chips etc and they work well, I’ve had similar on all my vehicles. However the fine print says it will only cover the front and a portion of the fenders. If you plan to take your rig off roading where the rest of the body is at risk from rock chips, scratches , and gouges from branches, then you should consider dropping the Ford version and getting an aftermarket PPF wrap that will cover the front, hood, sides, and rear if you want it to. This is my plan. You should also consider a ceramic coating after the wrap. This will fill in the pores of the PPF material and help protect from swirls and some UV damage over time.

From what are you trying to protect the vehicle? If it is rock chips, the protective coating will work well. It's not a force field, or miracle shield, but it'll make a significant difference. If you're buying it for off road, it's the wrong tool for the job; however, you will notice brush marks in the clear coat if you take your vehicle off road on narrow trails with overgrown vegetation. Most will wash out, almost all will buff out, and the protective film will keep a lot of them from occurring.

PPF protects against the rock chips, scratches, etc and the ceramic helps her stay shiny, clean off easier. Ceramic coating on its own does not protect against impacts from rocks. I started with just ceramic coating on a vehicle and still had chips. I then went to the PPF and ceramic combo which now leaves me with a chip free paint after years of daily driving. We have covered both of our current vehicles and I’ll do the same with my bronco from day one.

This is the brand my guy uses.
https://premiumshield.com/He has checked out the options out there and swears by this stuff. He finds it more flexible and he can do with one piece what would take multiple pieces on hoods that have lots of shape changes like our 2019 GT. He also covered my 2019 STI that I currently daily drive. For ceramic he uses gyeon. Good stuff there as well. They offer both a consumer level and pro level product. Both with the same level of protection. The difference with those is the longevity. Home applied stuff is rated for 30,000 miles. I coated both my old GT350 and oir 2019 GT. Being a part year car 30k miles is several years of coverage for us. The STI was pro coated which gives 7 years of coverage protection. All without re-application. The only parts not wrapped were the doors themselves and the rear quarter panels. Wrapping the whole front clip on the Mustang along with the mirrors, A-pillars, roof leading edge and rear wing was 1500.

Sounds pretty consistent there. I paid $2500 for the Xpel ultimate and nano ceramic window tint

Why not the doors?
My main concern is avoiding "desert pin striping," and the doors would be where I need protection the most.

For me personally it was an on road car and I just stuck to the high impact areas. Thought about complete car coverage but the extra cost/benefit, I opted not to. For this application I would probably do a complete wrap minus the hardtop. Actually thinking of the XPel stealth wrap for a matte finish

Exactly right. Apply where appropriate based on use. For daily driving on the street the key areas are primarily in the front clip and hood. The bronco being a much taller vehicle than my car pits the roof well out of harms way for road debris. Plus it’s MIC and not painted. I plan on doing the front painted sections, the fenders, hood, doors as well as the rear quarter panels and rear swing out gate.

If the PPF gets scratched, how hard is it to remove without damaging the paint?

I know that the XPel brand has self healing properties and can be removed without damage. Look up xpel.com and watch their informational videos on youtube. Pretty fascinating. Not sure about other brands. I researched and went with what I believe to be the best product
