Pre-Collission Assist Failure

I was driving with the flow of traffic in a curvy canyon.
The car in front of me did a sudden stop (allegedly to avoid a canine crossing the road), and I was a few car lengths away. None of the pre-collision features activated: no red flashing, no emergency braking. Just me and my reaction time and brakes, alas I still hit the car in front of mine.

It's funny that it didn't do anything as it at times detects cars parked on the side of the road and perceives them as threats but not in this case.

No air bags deployed for anyone, both cars are drivable, but the person I hit is married to a lawyer who already let it be known in no subtle ways what's in store for me next.

Anyone else have issues with their pre-collision? Ford, care to chime in since I'm up a certain creek?

Check your sensitivity settings on the pre-collision warning (It's somewhere in settings). Even still it should've gone off by the time you were hitting the vehicle in front of you.

I've had the alarms go off (guessing 10' away), but have never had any automatic braking done.

My collisions assist just went off yesterday so it's fresh in my mind. It almost always happens on straighter roads, and it's braked for me once on the interstate (saving my butt honestly). Was your experience on a particularly curvy area of the road?

Mine has went off as well with no braking…. A smashed dragon fly set it off yesterday … i was the only vehicle on road and I didn’t know what to think until I stopped and checked it out. šŸŽ

Sorry to hear. I live on a river. Parked cars from the fishermen on the side of the road set the warning off when it's in high or medium sensitivity. Drives me nuts. Maybe you had it set on low?

I hope the dragonfly didn't light off the airbags.

What is a few and how fast were you going? I didn't know the Bronco has anti collision. It sounds like yuo are blaming the tech for you hitting the other cars? I don't understand the purpose of the post.

Few is 2+.
Bronco has pre-collision assist. Know your car.
Purpose is: some features work, some don't. It's good feedback for the automaker. Some here have had issues with their cars. I also have a Mach-E with some tech failures (no accidents).
Hope this helped understand the purpose of this post.

No judgment or misdirected anger necessary here. Not blaming tech. The person driving in the car ahead who suddenly stopped was driving in an altered state. Not me "hitting cars".

The pre collison doesn't work in Broncos, I almost got rear ended on the way home by a Bronco.

2+ might have been too close depending on the speed. If you had more space the may not have happened. There was no judgement or anger, other then from you, just questions trying to get the facts. I have found that there are a lot of posts on this and other sites that people are blaming the Mfg., or others, but when the facts are known it is generally not a Mfg. issue. You need to learn not to assume!!

All factors were considered before making an entry on the forum. This is not meant as a ranting platform, but driving feedback. E.g. my Mach-E's pre-collision assist works superbly (and no, I didn't test it by trying to crash). The area driven is very hard to exceed the posted speed limit or you'll go fly off into a ditch or into a rock. The variables not posted here are not relevant to the post, and while you're correct no one should assume, this was meant more as a warning of "hey, just like one shouldn't take a nap while using Tesla's self driving feature or Ford's Blue Cruise, there are tech things that are still in early stages and not reliable". I wasn't relying on pre-collision, never do, merely am pointing it is either too sensitive when it doesn't need to, or completely blind when it matters. There are countless posts of people, including on this thread, of an insect setting off the "assist" while not working at all in another situation. I have never needed to use any such feature on any of my Fords, and frankly, the evasive maneuvering probably would have had me end up either fallen of a cliff or in a head-on collision with oncoming traffic.

The Mach-E, by contrast, applies brakes and won't let you drive for a certain period of time after it applied the brakes.

IDK that sensitivity could be adjusted. I personally would like to turn it off. That damn thing going off, is more likely for me to be in an accident than not. I scares me EVERY TIME.

They key was that you said you were a few car lengths away. If that was true and you had your foot on the brake pedal, the pre-collision doesn't have anything to do. It would expect you were already doing something. If you are not pressing the brake pedal enough it's not going to start yelling at you.

I see it coming on most often when a car is closer, maybe just one car length away, and suddenly decelerates. Most often if someone has a turn lane but suddenly decelerates prior to entering and is slow to move over.

If she was in an altered state, you should have called the police. Especially after the lawyer talk BS.

This. First time one of the parked cars on my street triggered it, I was "WTF!". There were no cars on the road, just parked to the side in the woods line. Had someone stepped into the road at that time I would have run them over because I was focused on the crazy-ass warning notification.

And mine somehow reset, because as soon as I brought my Bronco I turned off all the driver nannies before I left the dealership.

I turn off all the sensors and doodads other than just an alert. I don't want my vehicle doing anything I didn't make it do.
