Please help! My Bronco is about to go into the shop for the second time in a month

My Bronco was delivered on 9/21 so I've had it for about a month so far. Two weeks in, I got a message that stated:
"Sta-Bar Disconnect. Drive below 20 MPH. Service now"
And another one that said: "Drive mode not available" for any GOAT mode.

So it got towed into my dealer and it took a couple of days to fix(?). It was delivered back to me and ran fine (great!). For a while.

Now it's happening again. The sta-bar is always on and the first message is always on. The second one comes up if I try to switch modes. I have not touched either the sta-bar hero switch and had not used the GOAT dial at all over the past couple of weeks until the message started popping up.

My dealer has been great. They are now aware that it is happening again but Service is closed over the weekend. I need a permanent fix. And it's not like they can just ship me a replacement. I can't keep taking it into the shop every time this happens.

Please advise.

I don’t think you have met the criteria for a lemon yet but you are on your way. Keep records of all this and the amount of time it is in the shop each time. There is a lawyer on YouTube (VIN wiki) that breaks down the lemon law. You can have Ford buy it back or you can keep it and deal with it. Sorry this is happening. All manufacturers deal with lemons it is not specific to just American cars. They all try to keep it quiet to avoid bad press. I hope they can fix your Bronco to your satisfaction soon.

Thanks. Yeah, I looked up my state's lemon laws and have been keeping track (so far).

I’ve seen this issue on the other forum as well. Seems like it is sensor related- a bad sensor or incorrectly installed sensor. You might do a search over there and see what pops up.

I've been posting over there too. Just trying to cast a wide net.

I think they need 4 failed attempts to fix it or more than 30 days in the shop. First attempt needs to happen within a year of you taking possession. Then when they buyback it’s prorated based on mileage so you’re not necessarily going to make out like a bandit. Might be different per state, we had a lemon in NC.

Also fun story, most states don’t require the manufacturer to label it as a lemon, so they resell the car in a different state to somebody else, and since it’s a used car now and over a year old, lemon law doesn’t apply, so that person is just screwed.

Why even consider the lemon law? The bronco is a new vehicle and there will be new issues that haven’t been exposed/see yet.

Give them a chance to diagnose and fix it.

Send @Ford Motor Company a pm and explain what is going on. They want this fixed just as bad as you do.

"Have you tried turning it off then on...?"
Just for laughs...
But seriously, have you? Tried to drive it turning the sbd on then off? Try cycling through the 4x4 high, low.... drive in reverse...etc? Just checking as nothing was said and want to know how it reacts incase mine does the same.

Assuming the sway disconnect isn’t mechanically disconnected . The computer is seeing the sway bar disconnected. There’s has to be a switch or proximity sensor on the mechanism. It’s probably out of adjustment. Or failing . Don’t panic. I don’t think this is a big deal. If the sway bar is disconnected with the hero switch goat mode will be unavailable. If so inclined to crawl under the front of you pony, check the plugs for security on the disconnect. Good luck

Pretty sure cycling the chassis control module was the "fix" the first time. Had to be turned off for 4.6 hours.

It's not disconnected because I'm in 2H. If I switch to 4, then it disconnects.

The coupling itself needs to be cycled, brand new mechanical parts need to be "exercised"

investigate the lemon law. have used this once before during my life. i recall if you bring it in for the same problem 3 times, it qualifies. they will charge you on miles and such so keep good records.

It's not disconnected because I'm in 2H. If I switch to 4, then it disconnects.
If it does actually disconnect, that tells you its an erroneous input signal and not a false feedback. Sounds to me like chassis control module. Possibly a software issue. If they flashed the module on the first occasion. CCM maybe in need of replacement.

I'm sure there are a few dealers out there that will gladly buy it back but then you would be without a Bronco and have to buy a Jeep or Taco ,lol .
Lemon laws are not quite as easy to claim right now during the parts shortage . Most vehicle manufactures will claim they want to fix it but they just can't get the parts . My 2020 Ranger I just purchased to get me by until the Bronco ships has been sitting at the shop for 6 weeks now waiting on a part that was supposed to be here on the 20th . They just pushed it out until November the 20th and wasn't very sure it would not get pushed further .

Lets review. You bought a first year production vehicle. There are going to be Gremlins until it all gets sorted out. Ford does lots of testing but until they put into the hands of yahoo's you don't know. Going to the shop a second time is hardly a Lemon law emergency. It goes with getting the first ones delivered. Your the test rat. Give them a chance to sort it out. Ford wants that as bad as you do. Yours is likely the first one the service shop has seen. I am sure they will be on the line with Ford directly. Take a deep breath, relax and keep the details coming. Example the bolt on the pully hitting the hose. Shift change and new worker I will bet until someone caught it. S happens. Also why I didn't order right away and waiting until I could order a 2022. They are still learning with a new design and model. I am just an old guy who has owned and bought lots of toys over the years. I don't by a first year anything. I let them work the bugs out as there are always a few present. It is the risk of having the prestige of having the first one on the street, dirt or snow.

My thoughts exactly. Hopefully the CCM is easier to come by these days. It was previously taking months.
