Y'all I just installed the IAG dome lamps, which was an absolute nightmare around the fuse box trying to install this splice fella:
1682098177134.png
That is a screenshot from their install video, which is very different from the reality that I just experienced. I was standing on my head sweating trying to jam both fat hands into there with zero slack on the harness ... ANYWAY I eventually got it installed, and tested it and everything seems to work.

However, my question lies with the behavior of the bronco upon reconnecting the negative terminal of the battery. It was sparking quite a bit and the car was "booting" repeatedly while tightening down the terminal connector. Is this normal behavior? I figure if there was a short somewhere that I caused during the install, then nothing would be working as expected. The car is not on fire in the driveway.

Thanks for your help!

Happens all the time when re-connecting the battery. Think of it as the connection keeps pulling away until you get it fully tightened down. Besides, a few sparks never killed anyone. Haven't you ever been loosening up a batter cable with a ratchet and accidentally come in contact with a fender? These things happen, you should be good.

I'm fairly sure my confabulators and ego-boosted down tubes are not the cause of this problem hahaha literally laughing at my desk here

Asked ChatGPT to write a silly technical paragraph about electrical problems in cars:

The electrical anomalies that can arise within an automobile's power distribution network can be quite vexing, particularly when encountering issues with the electron regulator, or the multi-axial resonance manifold. Erratic feedback loops, non-linear conductance, and suboptimal impedance matching can lead to a range of issues, including intermittent power loss, erroneous sensor readings, and degraded circuit performance. To address such challenges, a thorough diagnostic assessment of the vehicle's electrical system is necessary, including a detailed analysis of the electrodynamic field, the cybernetic interface, and the quantum-level interactions between the various components. With the application of appropriate mitigation strategies, such as waveform conditioning, frequency modulation, and impedance correction, the underlying electrical issues can be resolved, ensuring optimal performance of the vehicle's electrical infrastructure.

It’s probably fine. Just be sure to turn off the gas to your home. 🤪
Chris here. I drive a 2-door Velocity Blue 2023 Ford Bronco Badlands with Sasquatch, Lux, a 2.7L V6, and an automatic transmission. It’s fun.

Explain electricity. That's easy.

Electricity is the smell you get from the smoke you see from the wires you feel get hot and the circuit you hear go pop.

I did a whole post about this. And you are correct. Everything is easy until it is time to make the connection to the fuse box. You absolutely need a good hands free head lamp or stand alone light source. Once I got the hands free light it was much easier to do. You also need to be very careful cutting the tape from around the wire bundle.

I cannot stress enough how important good, hands free lighting is for the one wire. It is very difficult to see the grey wire with the purple stripe. Do not confuse it with the grey wire with the brownish stripe. And it is on the back of the wire bundle. maybe they could have made the wire bundle 2-3 inches longer. And it doesn’t help that the installation video conveniently glosses over what a pain in the ass it is. Old eyes and slight color blindness is a bitch!🤣

I cannot agree with this more. I almost gave up many times. With each step came new difficulties.
I can't see what I'm doing.
I can't get access to the bundle.
This is impossible.
I can't fit both hands in there.
I can't manipulate the splicer and the wires at the same time.
I can't close the splicer.

Eventually I got it, but this was easily the most frustrating time consuming challenging annoying uncomfortable aspect of the install by a factor of at least 17. I was literally on my back upside down with my head in the foot well looking up with my legs sticking out using the wall for balance straining my back and my neck ...

... I'm really glad it's done 🤣

Exactly how I felt. When I discovered i didn’t have the proper lighting, I stopped for the night. My daughter ran to work the next morning and grabbed her Dewalt cordless light. I set it up, turned it on and immediately saw the wire and connected it in about two minutes. What a pain in the ass!

I'm a former electrician. The reason for some sparks when connecting the battery cable is that there is a small load from components that draw juice even though the vehicle is turned off. Easiest, for example is the radio in cars, it uses a small trickle/load to save the station presets and time. The connectivity modem, you wouldn't be connecting with the vehicle turned off if it didn't have a source of power, small one.

This is good advice, but sadly I already did the thing. OOps? I do like the functionality though.

Thank you! This is exactly what I was hoping to learn. I appreciate it. Totally makes sense.
