So i decided to go with antimatter. And i love the color. However its a DARK color and i live in the salt belt. So during the winter months its going to look like crap. Also the design of the car shows that there is a direct flow of ejecting debris from the front wheel well across the cars side (no mud flaps available yet) that im worried about.

I would ultimately want to protect the sides and maybe the hood and skipping the rear.

Anybody thinking about doing paint protection? I heard that its expensive. And for a large car can get stupid expensive ($5000 to $10,000?)

I guess the benefit of the bronco is that you can take the doors and fenders off if you are doing hardcore off roading to protect them from serious damage from branches and rocks. but i really want to keep my car shiney and clean however im a serious novice when it comes to car washing and dunno if i can keep it show room nice very long without eventually scratching it

If you want to keep it shiny and new looking don't go offroad.Without fenders those branches that would scratch the paint, now will grab important stuff and bend it,break it etc

Paint protection can be anything from a $1.50 add on coating at a car wash to a full car wrap. I'd get being serious about a Ferrari or show car paint, but when you add in "serious off roading" you can hold all paint concerns. You will get chips, scratches and dents. I am not aware of what Ford is offering, but some are clear plastic pieces placed in strategic places to protect the most common road rocks and such. Getting a color like AB which can be seen as almost black in some lighting might be the second worst color to get and worry about showing of the above mentioned. I got Cactus Gray just for this reason. As an FE buyer, I only have a few color options, but that one stuck out because of the dirt, dust, scratching and I do plan to use this vehicle more than fire roads.

I don’t think you’re over thinking it! It’s your money and if you want to keep your Bronco good for years to come regardless of salt... I say go for it! The best thing I did to my Raptor when I got it ‘12 was have it wrapped in less 24hrs of ownership. The paint underneath still looks flawless as the first day I took her home. As far as my Bronco, I’m planning on getting the whole thing PPF and ceramic coated on top, hopefully within the first 24hrs as well.

I was thinking about a full body wrap (roof included) in clear so you still get to see your body colour.

It will help with pinstripes and minor scuffs.

What are your guy's thoughts on this?

You won't be able to wrap the top. The Mic hardtop is textured and won't hold the vinyl well. I think this was brought up in the All Colors of the Bronco thread

Maybe better? Should be able to? Since it's painted, you would think, but I don't know if anyone has actually seen the mod top in person to make a guess

Guilty!
I thought it would be a smart move, but after doing some reading the Vinyl wont have the frictional forces needed to adhere properly, surface tension drops dramatically on textured panels

As far as protecting the sides, whenever I correct my familys vehicles, there is always FAR more work involved in the flat surfaces than the sides.... EXCEPT .... for door dings.:mad::mad:

In my opinion, I'd rank them like this, most damage to least:

Front bumper covers = rocks, bugs
rear bumper covers, etc = people dragging stuff across them, caked on road debris that gets rubbed around
Flat surfaces = contaminents, rail dust, water spots, bird bombs
sides = door dings, tar smears, occasional rock chip

Even though "sides" is at the bottom...those damn door dings irritate the holy hell out of me. Therefore it's the second place I'd spend money on protection.

You might want to figure out how to best protect the front areas first (Clear bras) and then how to protect against door dings.
After that, a high quality sealant or coating for the paint or even go all in on a wrap to protect it all.

Me, I actually like to whip out the orbital once or twice a year for a quicky paint correction, so I just use quality waxes, currently with an eye to the newer SiO2 stuff coming out now. Lots of good press about those so far.

As far as living in the "Salt Belt" the best thing you can do is wash your vehicle often. My husband and I have memberships with a carwash place and run our vehicles through at least twice a week. A touchless wash shouldn't scratch the paint. We had a 2002 Toyota Tundra we sold in late 2019 with no rust. We live in South Dakota so having something that old with no rust is huge. We did wax it some as well but only 3 to 4 times per year.

I will be getting the Paint Protection over both Bronco and Bronco Sport. In fact it will be custom designed graphics by one of the top wrap shops here in south Florida. The design, printed on high gloss clear, a layer of mate paint protection over it (gives a satin look), tinted taillights, and a FULL ceramic coating over the entire vehicle (roof included on the Sport) for both vehicles are a little over 10k total. so 5k each. just the paint protection will be cheaper. there are a few other things he is doing as well with the rims and Plastics but the windows.
