Hello everyone,

I am the proud owner of a 2021 Bronco Outer Banks! I purchased it last August with a soft top, but have been considering making the switch over to the hardtop. I have not gotten much help from the dealer and my research online hasn't helped either. Wondering if anyone else has a similar situation and/or any advice.

Thanks!

There really isn't anything out there right now. And someone with more time on their hands than me will probably give you a link to the thread about the only option out there. It's from Advanced Fiberglass and all in you're looking @ $7k+.

I'd say give it a few years, or see if someone who has a hard top is willing to swap.

Edit: Go down to the Accessories/MOD section. I think it was buried in there.

Thanks for the reply, that is what I thought. On the bright side, warm months are ahead! Guess I should hold off for now.

Yeah, with the cost of the hard top being so high I'm actually thinking of putting a new order in October and trade my badlands in whenever the new one arrives.

Yep, what was posted above Advanced is the only one. FMC probably won't be for a couple of years since they are still playing catch up and then supposedly next year they got the MOD release they have to catch up on too. But most definitely looking a good $5,000 even from FMC if they ever do put one out separate given the demand so far

Does anyone know if the restraint on the hard tops is still on? And, has anyone got the slide out tailgate?

Yes, the MIC top is still considered a constraint. As far as the slide out tailgate, I saw someone have their Bronco delivered with one but I haven't heard if it is considered a restraint.

@Laura - Is it possible to find out if the slide out tailgate is considered a restraint? I know at least one has been delivered but haven't heard of any others. Maybe no one's got them on their order. Not sure. Thanks!

Very upset with Ford over the hard top. When I did my build the hard top was $695. When Ford offered the 200,000 Ford Reward points, price protection through 2023, free sound deadening headliner, and conversion kit for the soft top, I jumped on it. Never got the 200,000 Ford reward points, but did get 65,000. Did not get the conversion kit, was told that would come with the hard top by the dealer. I don't think I got the reservation fee back either. Now Ford wants over $7,000 for the hard top. I have been on the phone with my dealer and about every department at Ford Motor Company I can find. No one can give me answers. I have spent too much time on this. Talking to an attorney tonight.

The $695 is on top of the soft top price FYI, shows that right on the BP. The 200,000 was for the MOD top if that was your original order and always has been that way. It's been talked about to death on here and the conversion was only added to builds after a certain date, Sept? I forgot on that, and is factory installed. Obviously, another case of "my dealer said" going on. Best of luck on that attorney might want to hit up Frankie on here. @14U LOL

There was never any price guarantees in regards to the hard top if you switched to the soft top. Also important to note that the hard top is $695 MORE than the soft top, but it isn't $695 by itself. Meaningless anyway, as Ford hasn't announced official pricing on the standalone hard top yet because they do not sell it as a standalone accessory. You can get the hard top now but it costs roughly ~$10,000 if you buy each component individually. The MIC 2.0 replacement kits cost around $7000, but you can only purchase those as part of the MIC 2.0 replacement program, it does not come with all of the necessary components anyway.

My complete guess is the hard tops will cost somewhere between $4000 and $5500 once Ford does sell them standalone, but we're not there yet and probably won't be until 2024 at the earliest.

As @ResidualGenius said, the 200,000 points was only if you had the painted MOD top or a First Edition on order as of March 19th, 2021. If you did not have either of those ordered, you are not eligible for the 200,000 points. And the conversion kits are a standard option on all Broncos as of Sept 2021 (the second week of September if I recall correctly).

Unfortunately I think a lot of people assumed they would be able to get a hard top down the road for $695... but that was never the case. I also think a lot of people—including dealer employees—read a bunch online internet forums about what other people were eligible for without actually realizing what the full details were. Ford's official communications in regards to what people were and were not eligible for was solid (albeit very brief and not super detailed), but once the rumor mill started it got out of hand.

Bottom line, currently the fastest and cheapest way to convert your soft top to a hard top would be to put in another order for a hard top Bronco

Well, according to Ford Customer Service and Ford Marketing, the $695 should be honored. If you go back to the 3/25/21 e mail, they do say the price will be honored through 2023.

The price protection actually does work exactly as advertised. When I signed for my '22 Bronco 2 weeks ago for '22 sticker price, there was a "rebate" line item for the difference in '21 to '22 sticker price for my originally ordered configuration. Even though I added more options, the rebate took off the price increase between model years.
