I'm looking to add a Rotopax-style fuel container mount for some extra insurance on long trips- looking at Amazon, I see there are a number of other brands selling Rotopax-style containers and mounts at about 50% of the price of the Rotopax stuff... which is pretty significant. Has anyone used any of these off-brands? If so, what's your experience? Any you recommend or any you strongly discourage others from buying?

Long Haul brand. No complaints.

I purchased two of these Long-Haul cans for my upcoming trip to Merus Adventure Park at Palo Duro Canyon. Fuel is not very convenient. They are only $34 including brackets. The bracket hardware u-bolt may not be very useful depending on your mounting location, so you may need to buy something to modify that with. The rack (below) I was mounting it to had a bar much too small for the u-bolt to snugly secure, and if you tighten up the u-bolt completely the screws would be prone to puncturing the gas can, so I designed a 3d printed bracket to close up those gaps. Happy to share that if it's useful to someone. (it's downloadable on thingiverse - https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6065844)

The first picture shows my first installation with some tubing to take up the slack and also the new solution - the tubing wasn't very nice or effective, so I designed the part to accommodate.

To protect the can from the ends of the threads and permit a tight mount, I added a couple of spacers to receive the thread ends... I just used some adhesive strips to stick them to the can. Another thing I did to make it more secure and handle shock loads and flexing and so forth was to slide small lengths of aquarium tubing onto the u-bolts to secure in the slots I created in the bracket. Just allows me to tighten things up more securely and so forth.

I'd prefer to hang them off the sides of the rack but it's a cheap rack and has no mounting accommodations. It has a rectangular cross-section, so the u-bolts won't work there - when I get back from the trip, I might re-design my bracket to adapt to the rectangular bar on the sides and mount them at an angle to the vehicle.
