Oil Life Thoughts/First Oil Change

So I just changed the oil in my Bronco for the first time tonight, at 2800 miles. Ive had it since August and the oil reminder thing suggested oil life was at 60%.

The oil was very black. Like, I would have expected that kind of color from maybe 2x the milage. I was expecting a little discoloration but not this much. For the new oil I used Castrol GTX Full Synthetic 5w-30, and put a new oil filter.

What are folks experiences with oil on these? What was your oil like the first time and maybe subsequent times you've changed it?

No experiences yet.. only at about 1600 miles on a 2.3 7spd. Definitely don't plan on going the recommended 5000 miles. Prob change at 2500. Still on the fence as to whether synthetic or dead dinosaurs. I change my 7.3 diesel religiously at 2500.. best way to keep an engine in good shape!
Ain't no fellow who ever regretted giving it one extra shake....

First oil change almost a year ago at 2K miles on our 2.3 MT. Switched to full synthetic. Great choice. Oil life currently says 10% left after only 2K miles (4K total) so the vehicle goes off distance 3-5K miles or time 12 months whichever comes first. Ours has almost been 12 months. On turbo cars you def want to change oil annually or often if driving a lot. First oil change between 1K-3K miles is best. Ditch the blend and go full synthetic oil

1st oil change at 5k it looked good, almost too good to throw away. If you want to get your oil analyzed go to Blackstone Labs they will send you a sample bottle for free you return it with a check they give you a personalized evaluation with numbers etc, I have used them over the years they are great.

I just changed mine at approximately 3500 miles. I would've done it a little sooner, say around 2.5K, but I hadn't the opportunity. I've always felt that the first change on a new engine should occur relatively early. Motorcraft filter, Valvoline 5W30 full synthetic. Swapped the drain plug for a magnetic drain plug. However, the truth be told, in my experience and engineering knowledge I think many of us get a little paranoid about the mileage interval. If you're using a good filter, average driving and full synthetic I think the modern engines are perfectly safe with a 10K interval. There is a valid argument to stay on the conservative side of that number when turbochargers are involved. Regardless, my happy-leaves-me-warm-and-fuzzy number is 5K. Rational? Probably not but that's not the point. 5K is the number that feels good to me and oil changes are a relatively inexpensive way to enhance peace of mind.

Definitely, an oil change is an easy thing to do to protect the engine. Id rather do that than drop a valve or something. This is my first turbo vehicle too, so just not experienced.

Another person suggested blackstone, but Im not sure how I would utilize the results anyway. Took the used oil for recycling last night too.

I did first oil change on it at 3500 miles. Oil was darker but not bad. I used to change oil as a past career and it was about what I would expect for 3500 on a new motor. This is the factory oil that the motor was broken in with and contains the factory assembly lubes which may degrade faster under heat than the motor oils. I used Amsoil 100% synthetic signature series (red cap) with a motorcraft filter. This oil is premium and I can expect this oil to last over 5K but I will always target 5K regardless of the oil life monitor. 5K is a good target even with premium oils. The 2.7 ecoboost has OH roller cams and turbos so 5K and good oil will help this motor last a healthy full life.

My first oil change was at 4200, the my Ford app indicated that I was due for a change based on my driving habits. I didi go to the dealership and changed to full synthetic Ford branded instead of the blend. Next change indicated is at 11,000 but depending on where I go will likely be sooner.

1st after a yr and just under 5000 miles. Still looked good, but change oil light had come on and I usually don't wait a yr, regardless of miles. Using semisynthetic.

First was 3500 at dealer. Next was 8000, went with full synthetic. I'll do another at 12-13000. 5000 is my comfort zone also...

Good for you.this country wastes a lot of oil with old 3000 mile idea.I use an analyzer to determine change point.
