Not 6.5 and not simple. My mistakes are someone else's gain.

So, I did my "4 inchers" (speakers) front and back (didn't make that great of a difference) and I went next to do my kick panels. I found several posts that suggested 6.5, 2 way, mid-speakers, so since all the 4s were Kickers, I ordered a set of Kickers in 6.5 as well. So to get to the kick on the driver's side, you have to take apart a jigsaw puzzle of the side grab handle, the dead pedal, and two pieces of the inner door trim.

Once I got in there, and even with the seat all the way back it is a real squeeze, I found out quickly that a 6.5 will not work.

So... back through Amazon go the 6.5 and I now need to order a set of 6.75s. Some folks prob already know this but figured in my findings to share.

Lastly, unlike the other 4, 4 inch speakers, the driver's side kick speaker has between 6 and 8 wires going into the plug.
Since I didn't have the correct speakers, I didn't split the plug from the OEM speaker, but I assume you could trace the two speaker posts to the correct wires out easy enough on the plug once separated.

If anyone has replaced the 6 3/4 kicks, please tell me how it went, and is the other side (passenger) any easier? That driver's side was a pita!

I think what this thing really needs is a sub! I would bet the way those rear pod speakers actually sound more like tweeters... with a good sub or even an under-seat all in one sub, that system would cook!

I hate to admit it, but both our Kia Souls' systems wipe the Bronco's butt.

And they are stock Kias! Bad deal Ford. Even for a base! From what I understand the B@O system is pretty swell, however.
Wonder if you could place a sub where the factory B@O system is on the base Bronco.

Anyone pull apart the rear of a 2dr base to see if the sub-mount is there?

I haven’t upgraded the speakers yet but, it’s on my list.

Did you install HPF on the 4” speakers?

Here’s the wiring schematic for ya that will help illustrate how the speakers are wired.

Wouldn't I want a low pass filter? I have way too many highs as there is not enough bass. I don't know, I always get confused about which one cuts out which. They always seem the opposite to me so maybe I have it wrong. The same way I can never remember how to spell couch or coach and sweet and sweat! One you sit on and one smells nice; I just never remember which! Sweat has the word eat in it, so shouldn't it smell good? For Couch and Coach, I just switch the words to sofa and instructor!

Okay so it is only 4 wires and they are going through it to the next, makes sense. So... I guess I am prob still correct in that once I get the 6.75s I can just trace, but finagling some sort of fitting to make all four work maybe a real pita!

I wish the companies would make plug-in adaptors. I have looked high and low and no one has them out yet. People keep saying the first quarter of 22 we should start seeing things; I sure hope so. I do not want to cut or drill anything on this truck to mar it in any way from what the Ford factory installed. I have managed so far to do this with everything I have modified (still have all the original parts boxed and wrapped away).

Hey, Bscurr, when you go to do your speakers, you will find that if you tin the wire ends very clean, you can actually slide them directly into the factory plug. Next, once up in there about 1/2 to 3/4, I triple shrink wrapped the entire plug housing. No way in hell they will shake loose, plus, you can easily remove if you want to place back the original hardware (speakers).

Thanks @Porkchop

The Bronco is not my DD & I don’t plan to do the audio upgrades until the spring (in time for topless season when I really need it). I am hoping that my buddies at JL Audio will come through with a stealth box for the Bronco but if not, I will find a creative solution for mounting a powered sub. Since more and more Broncos are being delivered, I am going to allow others to blaze the trail on this and I will likely just copy and/or improve upon a solution that meets my needs.

Not confirmed but, I believe this is what you are looking for —> Metra wiring harness for kickpanel - 72-5602

I too am a stickler for proper wire connections, grommets and cable management - glad you are too!

You could look at it this way, with all the work that you are putting in to this with trial and error, like you said "this will help so many others out." When you are finally done, it will be like when you first waited for your Bronco "it was well worth the wait" this also holds true, setting up the speaker system when it is finally done, it was well worth it.

I didn’t change out the kick panels yet. Just the 4”. I will be building my own plugs for them and some other items that may make the rears sound better. Stuff is on the way. I will look into the kick panel ones in a couple weeks and get them apart.

1Five1! You rock and came through again! That looks like the correct connector for the Front kick for sure. Hey, did you find the single setups for the 4-inch speakers? I agree with the all-contained unit for the kick, this way you don't have to run a bunch of components. I heard Rockford makes a 10-inch narrow that is pretty badarse and kicks more than what I need. 1641066927312.png

You know, just thinking out loud here, but I wonder if you could just buy the factory B@O preamp set up from Ford? Looking over the rear panel in the trunk, it seems the hole is the same... the base simply has a little plastic shelf stuffed in there where the B@O sub set up is located on the lux models. Of course, Ford may very well want 700 bucks for it when all parts are allocated, but it would be cool to do a plug-and-play with all stock parts to get the system running to my liking. I never thought I would be so bothered by a stereo system, but the Bronco base's lack of bass is really annoying and makes the listening experience really hollow.
