Hi all,
It's been some time since the Bronco Nation rules and community guidelines were clearly posted. We have recently revamped them to be more clear and direct to limit confusion and help each other out.

I've posted the set under New Users:
Bronco Nation Forum Rules and Community Guidelines

Since the majority of activity happens in this forum, I'm posting them here as well, unlocked. Please take a look at your convenience, and feel free to discuss questions or issues here.

Thank you!

Thank you Laura. I personally think it is a mistake to discourage all political discussions in a forum where the future of our hobby is heavily influenced by politics.
  • Political discussion should be avoided and can be deleted without notice.

However, I completely agree that some members take things way too far and too personal. If you are open to suggestions, could the politics rule be expanded along these lines:

Forum Policy on Political Discussions
To maintain a respectful and focused community, all political discussions must be directly relevant to the automotive industry. Examples of acceptable topics include legislation, regulations, or policies affecting vehicles, transportation, or the automotive market.
We also ask members to adhere to the following guidelines:
  • Respectful Conduct: Maintain a respectful tone in all discussions. Personal attacks, inflammatory language, political memes, or hostile behavior will not be tolerated.
  • Stay On Topic: Ensure that political posts remain relevant to the automotive industry and do not derail or hijack other people's conversations or topics.
Failure to comply with these guidelines may result in posts being removed and, in repeated or severe cases, account suspension.
Thank you for contributing to a constructive and engaging community!

Our trails will always be affected by public policy, and we should be able to have respectful political discourse. I will, of course, follow whichever rules you decide.

Politics are everywhere and people have plenty of places to discuss them.. If they start popping up here on a consistent basis then I am out and will find elsewhere for my Bronco needs... I'm not interested in politics on a Bronco forum..

I am guessing that discussing trail closures and issues would be allowed. Stuff like contact this senator, congress person, etc to voice your concerns would be allowed until they spiral out of control...

The problem is that political discussions always spiral out of control.. I highly doubt BN moderators are going to take action against a post asking people to fight against trail closures.

I think the point of the rules is to give the moderators the freedom to enforce them when needed..

Kudos to you for fighting closures.. This is something that everyone who enjoys the great outdoors should be involved in. Trail cleanups, tread lightly, respecting the land, all of it..

If we prefer, we can choose to ban all politics. Our former rules made no mention of them at all, so I stepped that up slightly while leaving some room for stuff that is a political mandate that affects Bronco ownership. @raqball is correct: the rules are an attempt to limit gray areas for both forum users and mods.

closing down free speech is not a good thing no matter where it is at. If trails are getting closed, why are they getting closed. A discussion about that is a good thing. To many people can't open their minds and talk as adults. I hope we can have those types of discussions without getting shutdown. Even Facebook has changed their mind, for now, to be more open.

Most forums have a no / limited politics policy. It's not a closing down of free speech issue in my opinion..

Who said we can't still have these discussions? I do think it's possible to talk about issues like trail closures, find out why it's an issue and try to find a way to resolve it.

The only thing the rule says - that I read, is this:

  • "Political discussion should be avoided and can be deleted without notice."

It says they should be avoided and can be deleted.. It does not say they are banned or prohibited. I assume that if everyone is behaving, it's a Bronco issue, a trail closure issue etc that it would be allowed.

The moderators will have the ability, and discretion, to take action as needed on political talk. Without any type of rule in place it would be the wild, wild west of Democrats -vs- Republicans..

It is possible to discuss 6G, Off Roading, gear and access policy without invoking politics.

I think the politics rule is there so it can be enforced IF needed. I am pretty confident the moderators are not going to be deleting posts and banning members for civil political posts made in threads where it might be appropriate to mention politics like trail closures etc.

The way I see it, it simply gives moderators the option to enforce if it's needed should politics get out of hand. The rules do not say it's banned and / or prohibited..

The moderators here are very laid back, friendly and I highly doubt they'll be taking over the top action against members.

As I said before, political discussions are everywhere and most times they are not very civil and they quickly spiral out of control. Not saying that would happen here as this forum is loaded with calm and rational peeps but with politics, ya never know..

I guess I am just politically worn out and beat down and want places to visit where political vitriol is not allowed.

Doesn't bother me, you can not talk about any industry without it involving politics at some point, especially cars

Oooh, I got a question. Per the following:

1737733588525.png

I assume my Username passes? 😊

And........also under Profile guidelines, the one account per user..... I only have (1) account, luckily still with my personal email... but if I got banned (like over at B6G), can I use another email to make an account? Just asking for a friend. It's worked out over at B6G, think I'm up to about my 6th email address now 🙊

I don't really spend much time on B6G as this place is much more friendly and tight nit which I prefer..

I was banned from the non-official Bronco reddit sub though. A moderator there posted incorrect info and I politely corrected the info. Apparently he got bent and kept responding with nonsense trying to excuse the bad info.. I repeatedly told him it was not a big deal and that everyone makes mistakes and to let it go.

He got mad and gave me a 3-day ban for 'trolling'.. I got a PM notification that I should click the provided link to discuss the ban so I did. After 1 message asking why I received the 3-day ban, he notified me that is was now permanent due to my 'continued trolling'.. LMAO!

Some people should not be in positions of power but luckily we do not have those problems here.

The way I see it, you aren't really banned until they do an IP ban on you.... even then there's ways around it 😉

Nah, I am not really interested in re-visiting a place that banned me when I honestly did nothing wrong. If I actually do something wrong, then cool, I deserved it.. But power hungry moderation tactics? Nah...

I try to be friendly and helpful most of the time. Sure I go off the rails every now and then and when / if I do, I expect fair moderation... If a place does not offer that then I really have no interest in going back..

Thanks, @Laura and those involved in the guidelines… The longer I’m “online” the more diverse I find people to be, which is great and adds to the meaningful discussions and congeniality we all enjoy. Having the guidelines allows for a way to keep those not interested in meaningful discussions or congeniality banter from spoiling it for the rest. Well done!

It's very simple. Unless Laura is a government official, or is enforcing a government mandate that prevents you from self expression, then your "free speech" as outlined in the 1st amendment is not being impinged. This is a private forum and the moderators can set any rules they want.
