2024 Big Bend Black Pearl Edition

When I first got my bronco a few weeks ago I was trying out the different drive modes. Driving in sport is so much more fun but I was worried it was using up a lot more gas so I have been running a test to see. I ran two tanks on normal mode and I'm getting and average of 20.4 mpg. I'm almost finished with my second tank driving in sport mode and the average mpg is at 21.8. That makes no sense to me at all. I've done a lot of reading and did come across a couple people who also said they get better fuel mileage in sport mode. But most people say it is much better in eco or normal. I drive one tank on eco and it isn't fun to drive in that mode and the mileage was about the same as in normal mode. I've done the cold air intake and a high flow exhaust. Would those have anything to do with the mileage being better in sport mode? It's really interesting anyway. I'm glad because it is so much better driving in sport mode. Much more responsive. Shifting seems smoother. I don't know if I'm imagining that but it is. Has anyone else found this same thing here? Also I guess they must have changed it for the 2024 but I keep seeing posts of people saying they have to shift to 2 high when they use sport mode. When I put it in sport mode it's in 2 high. I don't have to change it to 2 high on my 2024.

Maybe because you don't have to smash the pedal down further to get going the speed limit.

Interesting. I've only used sport mode a handful of times when I am in heavily congested areas. I'm going to try it next week during my daily driving.

I found eco mode to be useless. I made a cross-Texas trip from Texarkana to El Paso. Used normal on the way going, eco on the way back. Same route, same planned gas stops. There was not even a little bit of an MPG difference.

Did you upgrade to the "Advanced 4x4 with Automatic On Demand Engagement" (you'll have the Sas Package)? I believe that's when Sport kicks it into 4A upon selection. I don't have Sport as a mode but it sounds fun to drive in.

I have a 2024 Big Bend Sasq. In Sport it automatically goes to 4A and is fun but less gas mpg. On highway I do see about 1.5 to 2 mpg advantage to Eco mode. I've installed an Ingen Cold Air Intake and Borla Duel Exhaust.

No, I just have the big bend edition. I juat talked to my salesman I got mine from. He didn't know that any of them went into 2h when switched to sport mode. But he only had one w02r left there and he went out and tried it and he said that one goes into 2h also when switched to sport mode. I'm getting 2 mpg better overall in sport mode. One of my friends has an f150 and he does the same. He says he gets better mileage in sport mode too. I checked it in each mode with 2 tanks of gas each and that's what it's showing me. I think I'm just going to keep driving in sport 2h because of that and because it's so much nicer to drive and shift in sport. Maybe if I get into town or a city maybe it would be better in eco but I'm rarely in a city. I'm way out in the country. Thanks for everyone's responses.

Haha. I was getting 16. So.ething when I first put the lift and tires but when I put the roush air intake and the cat back exhaust it improved to about 5 more mpg. I'm almost to 22 mpg. I drive the speed limit. Maybe 5 over. I rarely gun it.

So 70mph? We do 75-80 here. Looks like maybe I need a Catback, but I hate the farty tone of a 4banger w/an exhaust

This is correct. I have a non-sas 2.7 with 4A. If you switch into Sport mode, you can switch back to 2H and run sport in 2 wheel drive. Lot's of fun!

Oh gtk. I was going off B&P but we know how that can be. Right now it requires Sas to get 4a.

I just tried my Sport mode and then switched it back to 2h. I'll see if I get an improvement over my 19mpg. On Highway I can get 24mpg in Eco.

I’ve noticed the same thing. Especially after moving to 37” tires. I get 1-2mpg better on the highway by going to sport mode and then switching back to 2h. I really wish I could save that setup as the default on every start.

It made me really want to buy the procal tune.

Yes, what I was saying on mine when I swit h to sport it stays in 2h. I don't have to switch it back from 4h to 2h. The salesman at my dealership hadn't heard of it. He was used to it switching to 4h when you put it into Sport but he went out to his lot and switched one of the broncos into Sport and he said that 2024 also stayed in 2h when he swit he'd it into Sport mode. He said that must be one of the things they changed with the 2024 models. Or at least some of the models because I think someone else on here has a 20w4 and they said theirs goes into 4h when switched to sport. So who knows. I think they changed some of them. I'm really glad they changed it on mine. And I don't know why I'm getting better mileage in sport but I definitely am. I do need to test eco another time. It's just so unpleasant driving and shifting in eco. Just not a pleasant experience. So i may not have tested eco enough but I will. But I am 100% getting 2 more miles per gallon in sport compared to the normal mode. And from the amount I did drive in eco I was still getting better mpg in sport. Someone said because I have my system so opened up and getting so much air moving in the air intake and out through the exhaust it just works better with sport mode. Doesn't take as much time to get up to speed so I'm actually on the gas less. Which I can see could be probable. But either way I'm going to continue driving full time in sport mode. Even if it got the same mpg or even slightly less the much better driving experience in sport mode is well worth it to stay in. I've asked a couple mechanics if it's harmful to drive full time in sport and they both said no. And oone Of them who has an f150 says he drives his in sport full time. So I don't know. But this is just what I have found through my own testing with a couple tanks of gasoline run through in each mode. I still have basically one more tank to go in eco but I'm guessing it's going to be the same. Even if not the driving experience in eco is so unpleasant I wouldn't want to be in that mode anyway. Maybe when I'm in heavy traffic it would be useful but I get into heavy traffic like once a year. Lol. Anyway if any of you test this out let me know what you find with yours and what mode it's better in. I have the roush cold air intake, the corsa cat back dual exhaust. And kompact blowoff valve.

Do you have stock size tires? If so I would guess that you will get the best mpg in eco and the worst in sport. That's what someone just told me. With the 35" tires and cold air intake and cat back dual exhaust mine gets the best mpg in sport mode. That's just what someone was telling me. So I don't know if true but it makes sense and has proved to be true on mine.

I totally agree. Of all of the aftermarket exhausts I hvhave Heard for 4 cylinder motors they sound terrible. For the most part. We can't get that amazing muscle car v8 sound out of a tiny motor. But out of all of the ones I heard I found the forsa cat back dual exhaust and I think it sounds good. It has a deep rumble. And it rumbles a lot. And crackles every single time I slow down or down shift and slow down. I love that sound. It's not a v8 sound but I think it's the best I've heard so far. I'll have to make a video and post it. There are some videos on youtube of it. But I'm waiting for my replacement blow off valve to come back from California. So I'll do the video of both sounds when I get that back. Yah, I'm not driving that fast. Our speed limit on the highways here are 70 and I got 75 tops.
