Just picked up a modular bumper today to go on my BB with the base plastic bumper with fog lights. Anybody have any info on what is involved in swapping the base bumper out. Do they use the same mounting hardware? Any info is appreciated.

there was a thread awhile back on this project and if i remember correctly there where some issues about the hardware needed. you might be able to archive the thread.

There are a variety of parts and issues that go along with adding that Modular bumper.

The two biggest are that you need a set of factory or aftermarket metal bash plates/pans, as the factory plastic plates won't fit or align with the metal bumper.
Secondly, you need to either order the correct turbo cooler brackets from mama Ford or cut the factory 5/8 hoops off the original mounts which are currently your tow hooks with the plastic bumper setup. You can sawzall them (which I refused to do) or you can order them from Ford, or you can use the Rough Country Frame horn kit for $140 to solve that issue.

You should be able to swich over the under brackets from the plastic bumper, but I am not sure if such is actually true, as the modular I got had all the factory brackets installed and the hardware as well.

It's funny, I went and installed mine and after realizing when done that I would have to go another 600 in plates from the factory or 450 from an outside vendors that I didn'tt particularly care for, I actually wrapped and stored my modular in my garage and put my base bumper back on.

One last thing, and I am not kidding, consider how the modular is roughly four times the weight of the plastic bumper. With that you are carrying around another human being at all times once you add that bumper. It's like insta-passenger, just add bumpoer! In all honestky though, OIt really does look flat out bad ass, qhich is why I am keeping mine!

Thank you for the info. I have got the front steel skid plate from Ford. Is this the only plate that’s needed? Do the turbo cooler brackets serve any purpose to the installation other than being able to install the skid plate?

There are two metal plates for the modular bumper, the long one, just in front, and then a smaller one for the engine plant and oil pan. Yes, the brackets hold up the inner cooler as well as construct the original tow hooks.

Crazy question, but is there a bracket that has to be added to attach the modular bumper. Doesn’t it attach by the tow rings?

It does attach by the tow rings, but there are inner brackets that tie all of that together. Mine had it when it arrived and I am not sure if yu can switch them from the plastic bumper, but you will see there are liitle plates that connect the bumper together to make it all work; they are intrical to the assembly being one part in the end.

So …. If I’m hearing you correctly ……. And I think I am.

Order the modular bumper as a factory option.

just to chime in again you need to look at the cost of the time, effort & material to = the factory cost. me i spent 895 $ done and over.
order what is important to you or mods you can't do and save the ones for what you can do cuz there is alot you can do and this is just the birth

Knowing what I know now it’s a no brainer. At the time of my order the modular bumper was a constraint. I removed it to get it built. I did not think it would be that big of a problem. I’ve already got the bumper and front skid plate on the way. My problem is how it actually attaches once the base bumper is removed. What parts are needed?

So you will have to swap out the inter cooler brackets that have the hoops on it if you have a standard bumper. Alternativel, you could save about $130 in ordering the brackets by cutting off the hoop. once the hoops are gone from the Bronco, the Swap of the bumper is simple the same bolts holding on your current bumper will hold the modular bumper on.

if you have parking sensors, the sensors are the same, but the cups are not so you will need to swap the sensor cups and put the sensors back in the same position on the new bumper.

Finally, faCory skid plates are heavy AF. You will need help putting them on. The gas tank skid plate needs the current gas tank brackets removed in order to put the skid plate on. I paid a mechanic $80 to install the gas tank skid plate.

I hope this helps.

where the tow hooks bolt on is there 2 mounting brackets that are required to bolt modular bumper to the Bronco?

no, the mod bumper bolts onto the same bracket on the frame where the old bumper came off. Ypu will need to deal with the tow loops though. Either cutting off the loop or replacing the intercooler bracket

Picked up my Modular Bumper today. Upon inspection , it really started to make sense how everything goes together. The key is finding a bumper that is complete. Piecing it together from Ford would not be fun. There are a lot of people that have bought aftermarket bumpers and are selling their modular ones. I was fortunate to find one local and totally complete for $500 which included bumper assembly and skid plate. I have found others around this price but shipping was about as much as the bumper. BTW I really like the bumper!
