MIC Hard Top Leak

So got my Bronco with MIC Hard top late September which is supposed to be one of the new hard tops. Had no issues for weeks but then a heavy rain happened and discovered a leak in the hard top. It was minor but water was coming in through the seal between the two panels above the auxiliary switches. A few more storms and the leak has been validated to be consistent. Anyone else have this issue?

Was the MIC 2.0 being shipped by then? Forgot the date they got that resolved but thought it was Oct. That completely sucks for sure though!

My Bronco was among the delays due to them fixing the original hard tops in late August and early september. It should be the MIC 2.0.

I'm sorry to hear this, Adam. It must be annoying. I'm sure the dealer will take care of you, though, given the history of this one particular component. You may have been unknowingly fitted with one of the earlier tops. The dealer will no doubt want to replace it as soon as they're able. There was probably a time period where the bad tops could not be weeded from the good, dependent on the discovery of the flaw. I hope you get a quick resolution to this, and manage the interim well. Meanwhile, try to keep things as dry as possible inside. Keep a towel handy until the top is replaced. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful. Have a good day.

@EvlNvrDys is having issues with water getting into his doors. It turns out that Ford is aware of an issue and believe it is the front seal.

I have heard other people with the new hard top having this issue. Maybe hard top 3.0 will take care of this problem. This whole thing is ridiculous and I can't believe even the new hard top is garbage

Correct in the fact that I do have water issues, and Ford believes mine is from the header seal above the windshield. The TSB Ford released also mentioned the left & right A-pillars. So yes, could be getting water in from those locations or could be the hard top seals. I guess it depends on where OP is seeing the water. Mine ended up inside my driver's side door, I didn't see anything dripping inside the cab.

I still wish Ford would offer a simple, non-opening hard top like the good old days. It could still be MIC, just no removable panels. All these leaking, creaking, delamination issues would be eliminated or drastically reduced and I have no intention of removing the panels once I'm certain everything is sealed. Doors off, yes. Roof off so I can bake in the sun, no.

It is unfortunate that people are experiencing this in a new car. That’s the key word: “new.” They’ll work it out, eventually. At no cost to them, aside from the hassle of processing warranty claims. Perhaps they can hire a few Jeep engineers to resolve the issue. I’m guessing Jeeps never leak? What surprises me is how something of this nature could reach the market without vigorous testing and certification beforehand. That’s where Ford probably dropped the ball. Still, waiting on my own Bronco with a hard top because I think the soft top, with its dirt-catching material, wavy rear side windows and obvious security weakness makes a hard top the obvious choice, despite a little water intrusion.

Jeeps leak too. Search for "Jeep top leaking" and you'll find a plethora of information on how Jeep peeps fight leaking tops.

I wish Ford would offer a fiberglass top like in the old days. This MIC crap seems to delaminate way too easy. Trying to save weight and yet it's been an issue from day 1.

jeeps leak all the time too :ROFLMAO:. Last thing we want is ford hiring anyone from jeep and making the bronco into a dumpster fire. I am glad I switched to the soft top. I love it.

That’s cool. You should like what you got. Like Sheryl Crow says “It’s not having what you want. It’s wanting what you’ve got.” After these early hiccups are cured, the Bronco is going to be the one to have, regardless of what hat it’s wearing!

I just don’t want to pay a lot of money for something I’m not too keen about. I think the distortion created by the waviness is inescapable. I guess you could get used to it, like anything. But I can’t forget how nasty some of these things look after a few years. They get brittle, yellowed, and marred by a ton of fine spider web scratches. Yuck! I can wait. Besides, by the time my Bronco gets delivered, it’ll probably have MIC hard top 5.0.
