I recently put in a reservation for a 4 door 2021 black diamond. I most likely will get the 2022 model. Anyway, I am thinking long term here, but what features do I get now so that long term this is a profitable investment? That is, I plan on keeping this car so that I can turn it into an investment or maybe even a collectible. I know that if you are going to register and insure it as a classic after 20 years, it should be kept to its original design and specifications.

Never buy an automobile as an investment. I’ve seen too many “Limited” edition trucks become big money pits...

Cars of the modern era are not investments, but an expense. I've been in the collector game my whole life.
Limited production does not qualify as "investment"

You have to hit "rare" AND "desirable" "all original" including paint, belts hoses, air in the tires. to be a contender. Then if the market is right...

I know of a early 90s ZR-1 Corvette that stickered for 64k, was a time capsule with 5000 miles original ties etc, the owner expected to get 36,000 it went for under 25000.Didn't make a dime and denied himself the pleasure of driving it for years a lot of years, then was too old to get in it.

Buy your Bronco and drive it.

I would say a LUX Badlands Sasquatch would be the most valuable as a collectible, assuming all that tech keeps operating properly. If you were going for rarity, I’d get the 7MT because I feel there will be a lot more 10 speeds purchased. For granted, with the talk of a coming “Warthog” Bronco, I would assume that would eventually become the most sought after because of what could end up being a steep price tag ( =less units sold), and most likely unparalleled performance. Just food for thought.

I second that, also many of the EB’s have been worn out and restored with mods and different colors. Yet they command a high price right now regardless (key being right now, as the new model is on the horizon after a long hiatus). They could easily come back down in price after a few years. I for one, plan to fully enjoy my new bronco!

I would not expect 99.9% of automobiles to be collectible and increase in value to be considered investment grade instruments.

That being said, the 2021 model year will be significantly limited and could potentially be more sought after due to low volume production. If you are looking for a good investment, take the $ you would use to buy a Bronco and put it in a conservative fund with a 3% annual return and in 20+ years you will be much happier than looking at your 20 year old Bronco. (And if you are remotely financially savvy you will likely see greater than 3% annual return!)

As a final disclaimer, I do have a couple of vehicles that have actually appreciated in value - a 1974 MGB (that my mother bought brand new in 1974) and a 2008 Porsche 911 Turbo 6 speed - each are currently on the opposite side of the depreciation curve - so it can happen...
- 2023 Raptor / Shadow Black / MGV (DOB 8/30/23)
- 2023 Heritage Limited Edition / Robin’s Egg Blue / 4dr / (stolen from my dealer 11/15/23)

I checked my crystal ball and in 20 years only the 2021 2 door manual bronco appreciated in value. All 2021 2 door Broncos are selling for $125000 in 2041. Oh I forgot to add a gallon of milk cost $130000 in 2041 though.

seriously though I wouldn’t recommend purchasing this vehicle for an investment. There is no way to tell what will happen in the future as for all we know maybe all gas vehicles will be banned and worthless. I would instead do what @Bschurr said and throw the money in an index fund or something for better chance of getting a good return over that time.

This is the best thing to do financially. If you purchase a new car and keep it for a long time it’s worth it. Who knows, maybe it will be like the original bronco where even rusted out bodies are selling for crazy money so it won’t matter if you put wear and tear on it. Either way it’s always better to live life and enjoy the vehicle instead of keeping it in storage. Life is short so make the best of it:cool:

You never know what is going to make a vehicle sought after. It could be that the Base Squatch is worth more because the higher trim levels have nothing but problems with all the advanced electronics. Or it could be the MT because it is rare. Or possibly the 2.3l because the 2.7l has nothing but issues. I am not saying any of this to be true I’m just using these hypothetical examples. And remember rare doesn’t mean it is worth more, my brother had a rare 1982 Mustang GT because it was automatic, but it has the smaller less desirable motor, so not worth as much.

Or buy two of them, park one in your garage and drive the 2nd one to the ground.
Problem solved. ;)

From my experience with classic cars, it comes down to factory options, so I would say the bigger engine, Sasquatch, and Mid package w/remote start, but the BD will never be as valuable as a loaded Badlands or First Edition.

Agree. We have several tri-five cars, one being a 57 Convertible BelAir with factory power seats, and power windows, we also have a 2007 Shelby Convertible black on black, with only 3,000 miles , but still not worth much.
