Key Fob Glitch

Two-day old Bronco, yesterday. With Bronco running, key in pocket, in and out, door open/close. Honks each time the door is closed (annoying on a whole 'nuther level, Ford!). Done with show-n-tell, time for a drive! Nope. Transmission is locked, "no key" error on display. Turn off, hit start button? Nope, "no key" error. Turn off, walk away with key, come back? Nope. Turn on remotely? Nope, tranny still locked, error code still on. Car load of folks waiting to be driven to lunch and much embarrassment. Internet says pull lining out of console, set key fob in indention. Bronco starts and runs, get to my destination, key fob still dead. Unlock remotely, drive w key fob in console again. Get out, key fob working. Key fob working fine since.

This is a warning to those whose key fob might die, and a question to anyone who might know: did I do something that I should have known is naughty, or is this a known bug, or is this something wrong w my particular Bronco that should be repaired?

I replaced batteries in both fob's within two months of getting my Bronco. That solved this issue for me.

Sometimes batteries just go dead in short periods of time. Glad you knew the dead key fob trick though.

Yes. Very annoying. I installed a push button in my Mustang but I still like having a key and don't trust there to never be an issue with a push button down the road. Between the lack of keyed ignition and cd player/aux for discman I almost returned the Bronco. If I didn't absolutely love this truck I would have.

Sounds like a battery but it started working again so maybe a low battery or its not properly seated? From my experience if you walk away for roughly 15 minutes the Bronco turns off maybe it locked the trans as a glitch rather then turning off. I would definitely have your dealer note it incase it becomes a warranty issue.

I had a similar experience (check my posts). After getting the no-key warning I tried my spare key. Same result. Used the console trick and drive as normal, and magically my spare worked again without putting it in the center console. Can't be a battery for that scenario, got to be a glitch.
