“This is an important vehicle in the lineup, and we remain committed long term to this mid-size SUV segment,” Jodi Tinson, a Stellantis spokesperson, said in a statement.

I got $50 they're discontinuing it. Cherokee is the worst performing American-manufactured SUV Jeep has in their line-up.

They just spent buckets of money on the Wagoneer... and they got an even more expensive electric Wagoneer coming. They already have two top-selling mid-sized SUVs (Grand Cherokee and Wranger), and they have a new mid-sized electric SUV on the way (Jeep Recon). On top of that, it doesn't make sense to downsize the Cherokee because they already got the Compass in that spot.

They don't need the Cherokee.

I bought a new Jeep Cherokee Sport in 1998, and never had a problem with it. Except for the holster and radio on my gun belt ripped the seats after awhile. Traded it in for a Chevy Equinox in 2005, when we had our twin daughters. Could not fit rear facing baby seats in the Cherokee. My wife's car was a Forester and barely fit the baby seats. Riding home from the hospital was insane. I had to move my seat up so far, the steering wheel was just about touching my chest. So, the Forester ended up being my work car and I drove it until we traded it in, when it had just about 300K miles on it. Now our girls are driving, so we bought them Subarus. Safe, reliable cars for new drivers. I flipped over in a CJ when I was 16 and busted my head open. Drove Jeeps in the Army and had plenty of issues. Rollovers, lucky if they were equipped with roll bars, and the wipers never worked right! We were so happy when the military transitioned to the HMMWV.

One of my coworkers bought a Wagoneer and has had nothing but trouble with it. In the process of a lemon law turn in.

The proportions on the back end of that thing just dont look right to my eye. Always reminds me of the Canyonero whenever I see it.

I'd be curious if they are getting the sales numbers out of that thing they were expecting. I know the Wagoneer is an old vehicle from the past they've brought back... but most of my life Jeep has always been known for smaller, more affordable SUVs. Odd they would try to dip their toes in the full-sized SUV market.

And then they thought that entering the luxury SUV market with a full-size $80,000 SUV was a good idea... just... strikes me as a really strange move.

---

Either way, now that interest rates are up they're going to have trouble selling a full-sized SUV regardless. So good luck to them I suppose.

I think it is the back window it looks tiny and the trim makes it look like it is a huge window but a tiny opening. Unlike the suburban 07-14 have a huge piece of glass but the opening is much smaller.

Yeah, I think thats right. I guess they are trying to mimic this:

Just looks wierd. The cut in on the rear quarter glass is not doing this design any favors either.

I'm reminded that when we meet Walter White and family in "Breaking Bad," the family is in a state of decline: problem marriage, disaffected son, Walter White a has-been science wunderkind who now has cancer. So to enhance the family's plight, the show gave him a Pontiac Aztek for his daily drive, and his wife drove a Wagoneer, i.e.--losers.

That said, I think time has shown that both those vehicles were quite under-rated.

But that Aztek made the Pacer look like the Mona Lisa. it was a really practical minivan thing. My buddy hade one for a long time and he loved it.
I just wish the new Wagoneer looked more like the last one just updated, not like they just redesigned an chevy Tahoe.
I guess the same could be said of the Bronco looking like a Jeep but if you know the 1st gen Bronco you get it.

Always sad to see jobs leaving.

Definitely the worst part of any business decision like this.

I wouldn't be surprised if Stellantis repurposes the facility to manufacture electric vehicles in the future. Maybe even the Jeep Recon--I don't think they've announced a manufacturing facility for that yet. But any plans years from now doesn't exactly help those that are losing their positions in 2-3 months.

I had a cherokee trailhawk before The bronco. Very capable for what it was and the price and had a real mechanical rear locker. Even the grands don't have that. The wrangler guys never acknowledged it as a jeep but did more than a couple offroad events with "real" jeeps and left them speechless with their t before ngnstock. It was known for some trans issues but I never had any. I hope they maintain something at that size with that capability.
