Is the Keyless Entry Pad a good investment?

Hey guys! I’ve been going back and forth on adding the keyless entry pad to my build. I think it would be more convenient, but I’ve heard having it makes the car easier to steal. I’ve seen other vehicles with a single touch button rather than an entry pad, but Ford isn’t offering that right now.

Does anyone have the entry pad and use it? Or is it an add-on that’s not very necessary?

There is another thread on here I believe titled "you wont believe this" you might want to look at.

However, Ive owned many vehicles including Ford with them and Ive never once used it.
EVERY one of my vehicles with key fobs simply will not allow the doors to be locked if the Fob is in the car so I dont see the need for an external keypad.
NOW, it is my understanding that you can lock your key fob in the car(by either putting it far enough away from he drivers seat or in a manufacturer designated spot like in the console) using the external pad, which seems like a nice feature though still doubt Id use it myself.
Guess I never found the chore of carrying a key fob with me terribly problematic.
Then again, Im old enough to remember real keys for everything where there was no choice.
All that said, I did not order one on my Bronco.

I've had that feature on my 2014 Escape and now my 2022 Bronco. I love the feature.

I hate having a bulky keyfob in my pocket, so I leave my keys in the center console, and use the keypad to lock/unlock the Bronco. The Bronco does NOT automatically unlock if the keys are inside the car.

I doubt it really makes the Bronco easier to steal. A thief would have no idea if the keys are in the console or the glove box. I doubt they'd break in HOPING the keys are in the car. If they are breaking in, they probably have the capability to steal it with our without the keys.

You can replicate the same functionality as the wireless keypad with your phone and the FordPass app which allows you lock/unlock the car from your phone. In my experience it does take up to 30 seconds for the FordPass app to lock/unlock while the wireless keypad is less than 1 second. Also, sometimes I leave my phone in the car when I go to a hiking trail or running trail, so the keypad is great in those situations.

I’ve never owned a car with this feature before. My current truck has a key fob that simply locks and unlocks.

If I’m hearing you guys right, does the keyless entry only work when the key fob is close enough?

Definitely worth it. My wife would not let us get the Bronco if it didn't have it (so she says, but that wouldn't have stop us lol). We use it all the time. For $110 bucks, you can't beat it.

I've had it on more than a couple cars/trucks, but I've never used it, not once.

No, it works anytime. Keyfob has nothing to do with it.

The keyless entry pad does only two things. It locks the doors. It unlocks the doors. It will do those functions regardless of proximity of the key fob.

And you can probably tell there isn't much in between on the feature. People either love it and use it all the time. Or they never use it.

Get it. With the key fob you will need it. It only adds $110.

Wouldn't, with the key fob, you not need it. What's the point of having both?

There have been several occasions we've had to get into our truck and didn't have our fob handy. For $110 bucks, it's a good backup option.

So you don't have to carry a giant keyfob around with you. You can leave it in the console or glove box and use the keypad to lock/unlock your doors.

This seems to be pretty spot on :)

I guess $110 wouldn’t break the bank on my build. Has anyone else heard about the possibilities of a break in/stolen car?

For all those unaware, you can lock the doors with the key fob in your vehicle by pressing the last two buttons after all doors are shut. Hope this helps.

The one downside with the keyless entry pad on the Bronco is that it is wireless since the doors are removable rather than wired into the door like most Ford vehicles. Therefore, it is not quite as secure as the normal SecuriCode keypads, as someone can read the RF signal it generates and mimic it to unlock your door. That said, it is not any more more or less secure than your key fob, so if you are comfortable with using your key fob there is no reason not to use the wireless entry pad.

Also worth noting that. you can buy it from the accessories site either here or here, depending if you have remote start or not. The only downside is if you order it as an accessory it will be the black MIC color rather than paint-matching. Doesn't matter for most of us since it matches the door handles, but those who ordered Outer Banks have color-matching handles and probably will also want a color-matching keypad.

Picture this, you are canoeing at your favorite river, hit a rock and get dumped, drown your phone and lose you car keys. Now your locked out out of your car without a phone that works.
With the keyless pad you can get into your car and retrieve a hidden key or fob. or does that make too much sense?

Love it.
If you swim, bike, run, MTB or hike, you'll love not having to carry the fob.
My older Fords had the key pad going back to 1997. I never took the keys out of the truck/SUV/mustang. I exclusively used the key pad for access. Never had a theft concern, but I'm old and have great insurance and can place a pretty good shot grouping..... LOL.

I would not add it as part of your build. Get it afterwards so that you don't have to unmount. Then, its easier to put it where ever you want. People conceal it in the cap tank cover, on the MIC top, etc.
I put mine between the cowl and wiper arm. Barely visible as you walk up to the truck/suv/mustang. (I have all three). Punch in the digits and the locks open. Or the deck lid if you like.

Personally, I really like having the keypad. It's handy when I go hiking. I stash my keys in the way back (not near the ignition) and then lock things up. No worries about losing them on the trail. For $110, I think it's nice to have the option.
