If you could tell the ford design department 5 things to improve the "gen 2" factory bronco . What would they be?

Seeing as we are heading into year 2 now of the bronco. Eventually ford will head to the drawing board and update the car inside and out like jeep has been doing with the wrangler every few years(JK to JL) so what are some hard changes that you would like to see with the bronco in 5-10 years when they decide to update it from its initial design?

1. Stay away from electric until you have your own DEDICATED bronco frame/platform/ and new safer batteries (solid state aka 5-10 years from now)
Im a big fan of electric vehicles. In concept. Unfortunately politics has decided to push the tech way way to early and consumers are getting burned by cars that will eventually age like ipads instead of cars. When solid state technology hits the industry , its going to revolutionize the practicality of electric vehicles by MUCH faster charging (comparable to a gas tank fill up) and MUCH MUCH safer batteries that wont boil you alive in your car at temperatures that can melt titanium.

Its also important that ford develop its own platform and not just try to shove batteries in gaps of the t6 platform. Im a big big fan of this retro design for a "electric" or "powerboost" bronco that has a flat bed/folding tailgate that is stacked with batteries for a ton of extra range. If ford ever wants to make a bronco "lightning" they should skip trying to adapt the current bronco and instead go for a new member of the family that meets the "gladiator" gap. Ford canceled the bronco pickup , however pickups are superior for battery storage. so maybe ford can bring this design to the table for electric.
2021-ford-bronco-vintage-renderings.jpg

2. V8 compatibility.
"but the power of the 2.7 is fine look at the numbers" "v8 whiners are annoying" That isnt the point. Is the 2.7/3.0 better on paper? maybe. The point is that off roaders and car people alike love the v8 and love naturally aspirated engines. Its also important that ford understand that while we are entering the twilight of ICE engine , they should be thinking about preserving the legacy of these engines by producing a platform that allows proper mounting and compatibility instead of fabrication work. The coyote crate engine should be something ford produces 30+ years from now for hobbyists and car fans , and we need a bronco platform/frame that will be able to simply drop this engine into it. As well as a beefy transmission that can handle it. There is a reason that the old broncos are still around. Imagine the lasting power of broncos that have aluminum paneling. This is going to be fords swan song to an era they started and can end. The v8 needs to be a part of it. 500,000+ rolling chassis' that can fit a v8 without modification is better than 0

3. No more "fun" blocking
The current bronco is very impressive that it allows consumers of any model enjoy the sasquatch package. However it blocks anybody without a 2.3 engine from having a manual transmission. It also up until recently blocked people from having manual+ sasquach. In the future the bronco should be designed from the ground up to provide this kind of fun at all trim levels. Ford should do a deep dive on design and make sure that while there are differences in the trim levels. You should be able to go anywhere in a base that you can in a badlands regardless of the engine you pick but also have FUN doing it. So if ford decides to axe the manual transmission in the future for whatever reason , ALL bronco models regardless of trim should have FUN shift paddles for example. Nobody should be left out of the fun stuff. Maybe even a electric "faux" stick shift.

4. Removable AND fold flat and flush rear seating.
People need room in their cars. Sometimes they need seating. Sometimes they need storage. Ford should make sure that every single bronco model , 4 door and 2 door , has rear seating that allows expansive storage options. Or even removable all together. Being able to fold your seat flat is good. However that utility is increased 10 fold if the seats fold flat AND flush with the rear floor. This will enable a massive gain in utility from factory broncos. Ford should design the rear of the vehicle specifically for this and make sure all it takes to turn your bronco from a kid pickerupper to a pseudo pickup , is flipping down the seats. Also make sure the rear of the seats are not carpet this time!

5. Less complex manufacture by streamlining features and trims
Eventually when this new bronco drops. Tech will have moved on quite a bit. I believe all broncos in the future should have the 12 inch screen (or whatever exists at the time as the premium option) with no alternative option. This streamlines the production and makes it simple. I also believe all trims should have standard washout flooring on all trims , with the option to put removable carpet in. But most important. Ford needs to get rid of some trims. There should be a base. A "luxury mom car." and a badlands. And (maybe) something beyond (the raptor should replace the wildtrack in my opinion) . But ultimately you only really need 3 trims. 1 low cost bare bones trim , a middle trim for people who dont need extreme off road features , and the extreme version. This makes manufacture very simple.

Without question in my opinion the interior needs the most work. Stop tying colorway into trim levels. Make the horrible blue and orange color accents a package. Offer wash out capable interiors with MGV at all trim levels and maybe make it standard. Offer leather/lux interior upgrades with 2-3 colorways. Better AC zoning. Level folding rear seats, etc. etc. etc.

Let's see a real Full Speedometer/Tachometer Display (MPH already displayed) and Tachometer dial (Not Displayed) on our Instrument Panel. I need the Tachometer, so I can clearly see when I'm nudging ever so close to that Red Line. LOL (y)

Better interior plastics
Provide an analog tachometer
Enable the ability to turn off low pressure tire warning when off road
ability to disable parking sensors when off road
Soft top factory option for the 2 door so maybe I could get my Bronco sooner
I know this is a 6th thing, but give us a v-8 option please.

Have the digital graphics look modern and not pre 1997. The digital graphics in my Gladiator look modern. Surely they can improve the graphics.
More cup holders!
Fix the window from catching on the sill.

All minor nitpicks obviously.

You V-8 guys are going to hate me. I test drove a base 4dr with a 2.3L, auto and Sasquatch package this weekend. I was EXTREMELY impressed with it! It takes off and goes!!! Yes……I have a 2.7L on order with my bronco. That was before I drove the 2.3L. Honestly….the 2.7L is not needed.

I had someone pull up beside me at a red light light in a lane that ended 100 yards after the light. He had plans on zipping around me and getting in front of me. I know you have had this happen to you before and what you would have done if you were in my shoes. The light turned green and I smoked his a$$! He ended up behind me instead of cutting in front of me.

I will gladly stick with the smaller engine that can be worked on instead of having to pull a motor or something else just to change a spark plug.

Hmm... I can think of several things:
- Offer normal backseat cup holders that would accommodate today's drinks on all trim levels. That needs to be fixed, along with the AC vents.
- The interior colorways are ridiculous... if anything, the interior colorways should be a LUX package add-on that complements the chosen exterior color. Everyone else gets gray.
- Ditch the stupid trim model stickers. These should be QUALITY painted metal badges. Badging STICKERS on a $50-60k vehicle? Seriously?
- Replace the old school whip antenna with an integrated windshield antenna.
- upper trims should come standard with AGM batteries
- Fix the flaky MIC headliner sound-deadening material that snows black microscopic fuzz all over you
- offer exoshield, diamond-shield, or other windshield protection film as add-on or part of Lux package (https://www.getexoshield.com/persona/adventurers)
- put a piece of basic trim over the stamping welds under the doors

Wildtrak specific (since that's what I have on order):
- The 'capable' front bumper should be standard on Wildtrak with optional modular. Not that basic bumper.
- BRING BACK the body-colored handles on WT.
- Add the mirror-mounted wheel cameras found on the BL to the WT

This actually surprised me! My 2010 Taurus had color-selections, as does my wife's 2020 Explorer. Why leave this off for one single color??

Was mega confused for a second... I was thinking "wait... gen 2 Broncos are nearly approaching 45 years old at this point". But we're talking about what would effectively be the generation 7 Bronco.

1. Hybrid
I don't think we're ready for a full-electric Bronco.... yet. Technology has a ways to go. But I would love to see a hybrid offering similar to the Jeep 4xe. Perhaps it is an Outer Banks-only option... I'm not particularly picky. But those that use their Bronco for daily driving would greatly appreciate it.

2. Permanent top option
While I personally have no interest in this, I think a lot of people would love a more standard SUV without a removable top. Most people who owned Broncos in the past never removed the hard top. And I can guarantee you there are plenty of future Bronco owners who will rarely remove their MIC top and would prefer having a more refined and less noisy experience while driving down the road.

3. Tachometer on the instrument cluster
Other have already said this, but the current instrument cluster is... uhh... dumb. Easily my least favorite part of the new Bronco. A traditional analog-style tachometer should be the standard option for the lower trims and/or anyone ordering a manual transmission.

4. Interior refinement
The interior of the current Bronco needs a ton of work. A lot of the plastics feel like they are on the cheaper side for a $34,000+ vehicle. The stock sound system is severely lacking. The interior trim accent colors are tied to the trim level of the Bronco rather than the color of the interior. The back of the second row seats are carpeted rather than being rubberized, even if you have the wash-out floors. I could go on, but overall the fit and finish just needs a lot of work.

5. Limited slip rear axle option on Base (and Big Bend / Outer Banks).
The Sasquatch option is awesome for the lower trims, but it's pricey. Yet if you want any kind of off-road axle on the Base trim, upgrading to the Sasquatch package is your only option. Having a limited slip axle as the standard axle for the Base rather than an open diff would be an awesome budget entry-level off-roading choice and would make the Base trim even better than it already is. I would actually just completely remove the open diff axle from the lineup on all trims and replace it with a limited slip option.

My old Mustang spoiled me. I get the little lights in the instrument panels, but how hard is it to set up a multicolor LED? How hard is it to program additional screen colors in the digital gauges, since on my Ram, I can choose between 5 looks.

Not asking for anything groundbreaking, just how do you go from a Taurus and Explorer giving you options to having your next Halo vehicle being Any color you like as long as it's Ice Blue? Thankfully by best friend got me this kit, just gotta install it soon

Other 4:
  • Make it so I can change the radio channel without having to click back afterwards, or somehow get sent to the depths of XM radio.
  • Have the lumbar sink in a bit
  • Add padding on the door sill, I rest my arm high, and have to train myself to rest it lower
  • Offer a 5.0 and stick

The 2.7 may not be needed but it certainly will be appreciated . I have a 2020 Ranger with the 2.3 and test drove a 4 Dr Bronco a couple weeks ago with the 2.3 . The first thing that I said was I'm sure glad I ordered the 2.7 ! My Ranger has more than adequate power but is nothing like a friends F-150 with the 2.7 .

To each his own, I agree with 4 & 5, but my only problem with the digital tach is the lack of color options, not that it's digital (I hardly look at the Speedo half, just the digital part)

I just wish Ford didn't hire retards and gave the 2dr soft tops from the word go, what did they work out a deal with Bestop so everyone sold they make a significant cut. If anything though, know people will remove the t-tops more often than not though.

-Headrests need to tilt
-Cupholders
-Soft top rattle from front corners
- Soft top scratching C pillar (yes it is real, not operator error)
-Upgrade the cheap storage compartment between front seats. I drive a Black Diamond daily and the top of the compartment is the de facto arm rest. It is anything but sturdy and it has play in it.
