high pitched gear-whine noise when in 4A ... anyone else

I've noticed lately when driving on the highway in the rain, when using 4A to be safe, that I hear a high pitched gear whine .. when I go back to 2H, it's fine... it doesn't happen in 4H or 4L either ... I was having a conversation with some folks on facebook and a couple others have noticed the same thing... is this normal?
