Help! Audio guys! Can you put sub speakers in the 6 & 3/4 kick panels slots?

My head gets to constantly thinking whenever I find a problem, and this idea popped into it!

Since there are so few places to put a kicker in the bronco without adding a big bulky box or stuffing preamps under the seats... why can't I take out the crappy 2-way mids speakers stuffed in there now from Ford (the only ones I have not replaced yet) that are 6.3/4 in the kicks and add, 6 & 3/4 subwoofer speakers (several companies sell them reasonably priced.)?

I know like everything in life, the easiest option probably has obvious reasons why you can't, but if you are a radio and wiring guy, please tell me if my plan is doable even if I have to add an amp or whatever, as I really don't want to waste any trunk space or stuff an all-in-one half-asser unit under my seats which, from the looks of it, won't fit anyway in a Bronco as there is no space under the seats (so very little).

It would come down to what amp they are currently running on the stock setup. Guess the base isn't much and what you need for the subs you are looking at to power them. I haven't seen any specs on what's pushing the stock speakers anywhere.

I have used Crutchfield for my audio questions for years. Even if they don’t know specific vehicle fitment (because they haven’t had their hands on one) they can give unreal tech info.
I would recommend pulling one of the kick speakers out and measuring the width and depth. Have that info ready for them and see what they say.
Crutchfield might be able to suggest different options. I did a quick web build for a 21 4D Bronco and it did list a few different speaker options for many of the speaker locations.

Great idea! They do have an entire install Q and A department. Will report over there and then share what I find,

Plot thickens!

"CrutchField"

Mostly the car subwoofer is placed under the seat or in the trunk. Sometimes it is fitted in non-moveable wooden cases, and sometimes people create an enclosure and mount the speaker in it and place it in the trunk somewhere. You can install small subwoofers in a car door.

Subwoofers take an amount of space wherever you place them in your car. But people always want to utilize the space in their car. So, we receive too many questions about placing the subwoofer in a car door somehow."

I am a bit blown away… or is my reading comprehension so poor that I think Crutchfield just said “we get that question too many times so we’re not going to answer.”

Oh no -I get it! People do this to me all the time...Crutchfield is saying you need more space for a subwoofer -like literally more space than is in a door...and the customer is nodding along like they understand and then ask -Okay so what do you have that will fit in a door?

I would recommend a kicker compact sub. It’s got a built in amp and can fit under the back seats.
