Just wanted to share my setup for a hardtop lifter / garage hoist. I have a Black Diamond 2-door and store the front panels separately, although I could probably put them on top of the main part and lift it all together. I can get the top off/on in under 30 minutes and (most importantly) I can do it by myself!

I created a Google Doc with some pictures and a full parts list along with links to all of the parts (all easily found at Harbor Freight, Home Depot and/or Lowe's). The doc can be found here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1EpXWp2S4B3YajOSO3-LsjXhtgHW67ZpQEv092YvI83w/edit?usp=sharing

The most important part of the lifter is a gambrel/pulley system from Harbor Freight. It's designed to lift deer or other game, but is more than adequate to lift the top. All in, I was right around $135 for all of the hardware, lumber, etc. (I did double up the straps for safety sake).

If anyone wants/need more detailed pics or instructions to build your own, just let me know!

So you just use muscle to lift the top?
No salt tram towers were harmed in the making of this post...

Yes but with the block and tackle it doesn’t take much effort to lift heavy objects.

yes, that's true. The block and tackle make it super easy. I actually use one hand to pull and one hand to stop any sway in the ropes as the top comes free from the frame.
