Well, I gave them several weeks to address this and was told they’d be sending me a spray to turn it black… but that never showed up, and now they seem to have ghosted me. So thought I’d post this. Taking it off my truck, after one winter season saw it starting to rust all over. Photos attached.

Should be powder coated, that is just paint.

I thought all their stuff was powder coated, should definitely be holding up better than that

Ouch.

Maybe it's just me, but I've been seeing quite a few posts like this one lately, for all kinds of brands and products. Seems like folks are trying to make a quick buck on the Bronco and this is the result in many cases.

Everyone’s been trying to be fast to market, and never considered the quality of their product to be as important.

Looks like plain black oxide, those will rust if the humidity is high.

Well I live in WA state, the humidity is high. They should probebly plan for that.

They should supply black stainless. You can get stainless black oxided bolts if plain stainless us not acceptable

Wow. That's so disappointing. Looks like I may have made a pretty costly mistake by ordering my Hammer Built tailgate reinforcement (and related) products. I don't know anything about powder coating but I wonder if it's possible to double or triple the powder coating to prevent rust?

It wouldn’t be so bad if the company did what they said they would do, but I haven’t received anything from them, and now they don’t return my calls or emails. I am pretty understanding, but you’ve got to stand behind your product.

Hey @Sulley , I contacted the owner of hammerbuilt directly (my bronco group is working with him on a project), I’ll shoot you a message, he wants you to contact him directly.

I returned my new bumper to Rough Country just a few months after I installed it due to rusting. They paid for powder coating and no charge for the replacement bumper. It’s unfortunate, but the customer service there was awesome.

Thanks. I’ve spoken to Tyson about it a few times. Emailed them again a few days ago, and tried calling again as well - he knows how to reach me. It’s been about a month (beginning of April) and I haven’t received a spray or any replacement parts or anything from them.

I think at this point they should reimburse your purchase price and send you a powder coated replacement. I don't think I would have been very cozy with a black paint spray can either. Thank you for posting.

just to follow up, Tyson did call me the other day, apologized for the delays, and even offered a refund. We landed on a replacement which he’s sent out. the new one is supposedly going to have an improved powder coat. I’ll post photos when I get it. He made things right. Thanks.

I recently received the Hammer Built Rotopax mount plate, but it broke through the box in transit and some edges are showing bare metal. It was not packaged well. What can I apply by myself to prevent those edges from rusting in the future?
