Fuel tank location

Only owned a few days but was wondering…. to me the fuel tank on the 4 doors hangs a little low. Has anyone had any clearance issues when off roading or possibly received damage. No factory skid.. seems odd to me.

2023 Wildtrak, sas, mid, soft top. Not crazy offroader…. Just a normal trail junkie

It hangs low on the 2 door as well. My 22 Basesquatch 2Dr came with a skid plate for the fuel tank.

Crazy i know but I figured a wildtrack would be skidded…. My fault for ASS uming

Yup the WT does not come with the skids. But I watched numerous WT do every obstacle that a BL did at Moab with zero issues

I don't know the rhyme nor reason. My Lux OBX 2 door came with the factory fuel tank skid/bash plate but no other skid/bash plates. I added the ARB Under body armor set for the other locations.

I have been told that all 2 door Broncos come with a fuel tank skid plate, regardless of the trim level. It seems that the attempt to maximize fuel capacity for the 2door caused the tank to extend just below the frame rail.

My stock skid (all 2drs have them) is absolutely hammered but is doing it's job. I'm certain I'd have a leak by now without it. IMO a tank skid is right up there as the first mod you should do to a 4dr.

Here is a photo of the factory skid plate on the 2 door bronco. 4 door gas tank is larger than the 2 door.
The factory skid plate on the 2 door is extremely well built and likely as good if not better than aftermarket solutions.

Yes, I live in Minnesota, and yes, I drove this in the winter. thus the rust.

Appreciate all the info on this….even if someone doesn’t do crazy offroading, one would think that even normal hard surface driving that there is potential for something to be ran over and thrown into the plastic tank. Guess i am over thinking it from a normal safety standpoint.

Now I too have been told. Lol. Saves me some $ , though I was thinking more for thwarting gas thieves. I keep hearing drilling gas tanks to steal gas is becoming a big problem.

Curious if the 4 doors got the 3 piece heat shield that the 2 door has between the tank and plate.
