Front diff leaking

Changed my oil today, while had the bash plates off I noticed the bottom of the front diff was wet. Looking closer, there appears to be a small leak from the pinion shaft seal, the outside of the diff is wet from there down to the bottom, and lube and dirt are accuumulating on the crossmember under it and behind it.

Bronco only has 21K miles, mostly street. Guess it's time to visit the dealership.

I had the same issue a few weeks ago. Dealership took care of it no problem. Ring pinion seal leaked. Took a couple of days. Had to wait for one part an extra day

Just noticed mine leaking, already had the driver sides rear wheel seal replaced over the holidays. Hate dealing with any dealership.

I can't see anything in those tiny photos, @EBG. Can you reload larger ones, please?
Chris here. I drive a 2-door Velocity Blue 2023 Ford Bronco Badlands with Sasquatch, Lux, a 2.7L V6, and an automatic transmission. It’s fun.

Thanks! And Yikes! That discoloration where the fluid leaked is alarming. Can't blame @EBG at all for being concerned. It's a good thing they removed the bash plate for the oil change and revealed the issue before it became dire. I may want to do the same, even if I don't perform my own oil change.

The skid plate has a hole in it right there at the bottom of the differential. I only noticed it because it dripped on my garage floor.

This happened to ours too after about 24,000 miles and it quickly turned into a nightmare. We noticed a small spot in the garage and the dealer confirmed it was leaking from the front diff. Let them keep it - for well over week - until they finally pulled it in for service. They ordered parts and insured us that the problem would be fixed. Another week later, upon picking it up from the dealer at closing time on a Friday, we could hear a horrible noise coming from the front diff whenever 4WD was engaged. Sounded like the entire front end was about to drop out of the vehicle. And when we parked it that evening the diff was leaking profusely, much worse than when we initially brought it in. But we were in a huge bind because we needed the Bronco for a trip we were taking and were forced to take it with us - driving in 2WD and praying we didn't have a catastrophic failure before we could get home. I shared our feelings with the dealer and when we returned home they came and towed her away and dropped us off an inferior rental (isn't everything inferior, if we're being honest?) and the long wait began. More than a month passed before they said she was ready to go. They had to put in an emergency request to Ford for a completely new front diff and a multitude of other parts in order to eliminate the problem. They said they didn't really know what the problem was but that ours was not the only one having the same issue. They suspect a recall may be issued eventually but we shall see. Thankfully this was covered by the drivetrain warranty or this would have cost us well over 5K based on the paperwork I saw on their desk. The problem seems to have been eliminated but time will tell. Hopefully this was just teething issues and the new diff is built well.
