Outer Banks 2dr, std wheels & tires. Not Sasquatch. Anybody know what is the purpose of the short, bolted on frame extension behind the front wheel? Seems useless, plus it prevents the installation of WeatherTech mud flaps, which is very irritating to me. Or, does anyone know a magic trick to install the mud flaps with that stub extension in place?

I tried to remove that extension, but the two bolts are immovable, even with a ratchet extension. Overall, a very frustrating situation.

I believe your talking about the crash bars. They are designed to protect/reduce intrusion into the passenger compartment of the front wheels in a front end crash.

Ample videos on YouTube of people cutting them off to fit larger tires if it is the crash bars. Try watching some of those to determine if that’s the route you want to go

If your talking about the crash bars... they are removable... just be careful, if they are that tight.. and u have it on jack stands... and watch the fenders if they suddenly decide to break lose unexpectedly.. No dents or dings!!
